Stringing a tennis racquet

I've never strung a tennis racquet before, so I don't really know, but how is it done? Like the whole tension thing??

If I asked a person to string it at 50 lbs, is there a reason they did it 60 on the mains and 55 on the crosses? Does that make it 50 or something, or did he just not listen to what I said???

Any info would help, thanks
