Re: How is the Australian Open viewed as a "grand slam"

Not sure if that is a serious comment or you just had a bad experience. There is a reason Melbourne has been named the most livable city in the world previously and is consistently in the top handful...

Re: How is the Australian Open viewed as a "grand slam"

The US may be the most important market, but it's not more important than the rest of the world combined. Which is how I'm taking your argument here if you are not going to take ratings from other...

Re: How is the Australian Open viewed as a "grand slam"

Nope. End of January is great, because it's school holidays still. Move it forward a month and you won't get the same attendance.

Re: AO R1 [15] Pomekova opens bakery on [WC] Barty 3-6 6-0 6-1

She is nothing like Tomic personality wise, but she definitely has a similar ability to give points away very very cheaply. Tomic is losing that ability slowly which is why he's had good results this...

Re: Pova def. Australia's Jr. Boys Champ!!

Isn't the title of this thead misleading? Sharapova did not beat a junior boys champion. Kokinakkis has not won a JGS event, that would be Saville and it doesn't say she beat him.

Having said...

Re: Hobart R1: Barthel def. Barty 2-6 6-0 6-1

I'm curious which 16 year old wouldn't find a top 100 player in decent form a nightmare matchup.

Re: Which Junior Wimbledon Champion has more potential: Laura Robson or Ashleigh Bart

Barty's court craft puts her ahead of typical small fast ball strikers that are playing. In that regard she's on a level closer to the likes of Henin and Hingis. Her ability to construct points is...

Re: Hingis: I think you could say that Maria is not the most talented player of her g

Since when does a generation span 3 or 4 years? Look it up. Generation Y is considered 1982-1999. Some interpret it as only people born in the 1980's, but either way it's a period spanning at least a...

Re: GrassGOAT Ashleigh Barty on 13 match winning streak

I think she will be better than a lot of people think. She is a sure thing for top 10 eventually IMO, quite possibly better and will be a GS contender.

But she needs to beat better opponents...

Re: Ipswich 25K SF: Ashleigh Barty d. Sally Peers 6-1 6-1, 16 match streak on 3 surfa

I don't think I am doing either. Barty is 15. You don't project her game at 15 with the same standards as a player fully matured at 27. Barty is leaps and bounds ahead of Stosur at the same age....

Re: Ipswich 25K SF: Ashleigh Barty d. Sally Peers 6-1 6-1, 16 match streak on 3 surfa

That's a ridiculously bad explanation of their similarities. Does that mean every player whose weapons are the forehand and serve play like Stosur?

The similarities to Hingis go to the...

Re: $25,000 Mildura Final: (SE)Ashleigh Barty df. (WC)Viktoriya Rajicic 6-1 7-6(8)

This must be somewhat unprecedented for a player so young in the modern era? Two pro titles in a row at 15? Particularly these days when the average age of pro players is rising so much.

Her...

Re: AO: 1r Anna Tatishvili def. (WC) Ashleigh Barty 6:2, 7:6(4)

Barty showed so much more talent it's not funny. The only skill Tatishvilli was better than Barty at was probably backhand and the ability to keep the ball in play. 43 unforced errors to 17 is the...

Re: Ash Barty : most exciting junior prospect???

A 15 year old is not as dynamic as a former world number 1? Barty is a superior talent to Henin at the same age. Some comments in this thread make it seem like Barty is a vet that has peaked. IMO her...

Re: Ash Barty : most exciting junior prospect???

Just a question for people, do you find it exciting when you see Federer's opponent hit an absolute bullet deep in the court towards the corners, only to have Federer almost nonchalently hit a half...

Re: Ash Barty : most exciting junior prospect???

Kromacheva is your typical basher. Except she's not really that tall or strong. If she can't improve her power she won't be an absolute top player, because the rest of her game is nothing special.

Re: Most beautiful forehand strokes.

I'm actually enamoured by 15 year old Ashleigh Barty's from what I've seen. It's an outstanding fluid motion and has similarities with Federer's.

Re: Who will breakthrough in 2012?

Why is that funny? Some kind of "in" joke?

Anyway I don't know why Dellacqua is there. She's a distinctly average player who had a bit of a hot streak. Nowhere near powerful enough to hang with...

Re: Rising star?

The rub with that though is that I'm sure Ashleigh would prefer it that way. I think she would prefer to stay out of the off court stuff and be respected purely for her on court ability, like say...

Re: Rising star?

She's a typical laid back Australian girl. It's far more impressive than some clown that carries on like Kromacheva/other Euro's. Or most full of shit Americans. She speaks honestly and minus the bs...

Re: BJK, Navratilova and Stubbs' Responses to Margaret Court's Anti-Gay Comments

I'm pretty sure the court is named after her because she is by far Australia's best ever player and arguably the best ever female tennis player.

I'm pretty sure her opinions have nothing to do...

Re: Which Junior Wimbledon Champion has more potential: Laura Robson or Ashleigh Bart

Big difference being Barty doesn't seem to be a mental midget. I know Stosur seemed to have overcome this by winning the US Open, but she's had a careers worth of being mentally weak. Barty also...

Re: Which Junior Wimbledon Champion has more potential: Laura Robson or Ashleigh Bart

Barty is a combo of Henin and Hingis. She has that level of skill and craft while also having latent power from a flawless forehand technique. Also seems to have the same kind of mental toughness....

Re: USO Final : [9] Sam Stosur def. [28] Serena Williams 62 63

So you want a player with Federer like dominance in the womens game? Why? What's the point of even watching if someone is so dominant you can basically hand them the trophy before the tournament even...
