Re: RG is only muguruza's 3rd title

RG was Kuerten's first title and he was ranked only #66 at the time. His career turned out just fine, I'd say. :)

Re: Why don't modern tennis players like to retire anymore?

For those in the 20-100 ranking range the biggest motivator is probably just $$$ coupled with no clear idea what to do next. Most of them couldn't make anywhere close to what they are making now by...

Re: The 2016 Off-Court Photos Thread (Photo Shoots/Parties/Sponsor Events etc.) Vol.

Not that easy, you have to have a real apartment there to be a Monaco resident. Even though Monaco doesn't care how much time you spend there Danish authorities would (for tax purposes). I remember...

Re: Average age of live tennis audiences

Of course it isn't. A city couldn't function with retired people alone.

Re: welcome to the top 10 Belinda Bencic !!

I believe there have been few men who've reached the top 10 for the first time in their thirties. Interestingly no woman has achieved this feat.

Re: welcome to the top 10 Belinda Bencic !!

What do those other numbers to the right of age in that table mean?

Re: All Australian open champs won more than 1 slam

On the men's side there have been several players not so long ago to only win ono AO as their only slam.

Re: Schiavone has absolutely no plans to retire

That's a bit misleading because she was ranked high enough during most of the year to get into all slams. If/when she slips below that threshold her earning ability will be much less. For a...

Re: Who will qualify for the YEC?

For normal tournaments seedings are from the previous week's rankings. Who knows what they are going to be doing for this one...

Re: Who will qualify for the YEC?

There will be a lot more clarity in 3-4 days. Right now it seems players need to get about Safarova's number (3222) to have a reasonable shot without major points after Beijing.

Re: Santina playing Guangzhou International Women's Open next week

But Hingis will play Tianjin with Bencic. Is that too small a tournament to affect her ranking points?

Re: Future of Italian women tennis not too bright

We have a saying which when translated to English says "The coffin can not stay empty". What it means in this case that the top 50 players have to come from somewhere so as a default some country has...

Re: WWW WTA Wuhan?

I see very little chance for Bencic or Radwanska. If they leave for the airport immediately after the final it will still take 7 h to get to Wuhan (no direct flights) with a match the following day.

Re: WTA is falling apart because there's too much easy money involved

Depends what you call major sponsorships. If we are talking about millions then yes, that's only for a dozen players at most. With investments I meant their own investments from prize money won...

Re: WTA is falling apart because there's too much easy money involved

We are conveniently forgetting here that top 100 players more often than not have also incomes from sources other than prize money. Sponsorship, investments etc.

Re: Quebec City SF : Ostapenko d. Broady 64 62

English spelling doesn't make sense either if you don't understand the language and the same is true for French.

Re: Who is gonna win 2015 WTA Newcomer of the Year Award?

Bencic is a strong candidate for most improved, but certainly not for newcomer. No way Schmiedlova would win this either. She played well, but it will be here THIRD year finishing inside the top 100....

Re: Quebec City SF : Ostapenko d. Broady 64 62

No, Aļona is pronounced differently, but Latvian Jeļena is pronounced exactly the same as Russian Elena. Russians themselves sometimes transliterate the same name to Latin alphabet differently. Some...

Re: Quebec City SF : Ostapenko d. Broady 64 62

Latvian is very unusual among all languages I'm aware off that we spell foreign names the way they are pronounced not the way they are spelled originally. That's just the gramatical rule we have....

Re: Quebec City SF : Ostapenko d. Broady 64 62

Actually Estonians and Fins are closer to each other by language and culture than Latvians and Lithuanians. I can understand some fragments of written Lithuanian, but nothing really of the spoken...

Re: The 2015 Off Court Photos Thread (Photo Shoots/Parties/Sponsor Events etc.) Vol.

Maria is pretty, but leaves an impression of being an "ice queen". Flavia is someone you'd actually want to date. She is very well proportioned everywhere plus It's not just about looks alone but...

Re: Women's Tennis Ratings hit highs!! (and lows)

I think besides players not being that popular outside their own country there is another thing going on and that is that people have started to watch less TV and there is so much choice that the...
