What is "peak"?

There is a lot of discussion here lately about players being at their "peaks".

But what is "peak Hingis" or "peak Pierce"?

Is it

a) a great performance in 1st round at Indian Wells against...

Re: Peak Hingis vs Peak Steffi

I think it will work because I really don't know who this "Calimero377" is.
Maybe the "Calimero" from rec.sport. tennis? He is a great guy, from Germany as well (maybe a little bit over-the-top...

Re: Peak Hingis vs Peak Steffi

Well, it doesn't support exactly that Seles of winter 92 was BETTER than Seles of winter 93.
But it does even support less your theory that Seles of winter 92 was WORSE than Seles of winter 93.

Re: Peak Hingis vs Peak Steffi

You are obviously a tennis newbie.
The experts say "Seles didn't win it, Graf lost it." when they want to say that Graf's weak play (UEs etc.) was more responsible for the result then Seles's good...

Re: Peak Hingis vs Peak Steffi

The facts say otherwise:

From January 1st until 27th April 1992 (week before Hamburg 1992) Monica Seles won 26 of 27 matches losing only 4 sets.
She lost 124 games in 58 sets (average 2.1 games)...

Re: Peak Hingis vs Peak Steffi

Seles won the 3rd set 6-2.
She hit 5 winners and made 5 UEs.
Graf hit 9 winners and made 15 UEs.

Says a lot, IMO.

Re: Peak Hingis vs Peak Steffi

Actually Steffi beat #1 Monica in 5 of 7 matches.

But we are supposed not to discuss Graf/Seles in threads which were not started as Graf/Seles-related ones! Say the net-cops.

Re: Peak Hingis vs Peak Steffi

I don't agree.
Steffi beat peak Monica handily 6-2 6-1 in 1992 (4 weeks after Monica had won her 3rd consecutive slam).
And she beat peak Mary handily 6-2 6-2 in 1995 (4 weeks after Mary had won...
