Re: Kerber, Wozniacki, Baczinsky latest withdrawals in Dubai

This isn't the solution.

Firstly it's literally impossible to penalise an early withdrawal, I mean what are you going to say, that a player isn't injured? Secondly if you made the penalties too...

Re: Kerber, Wozniacki, Baczinsky latest withdrawals in Dubai

The entry list is hardly sub-par even with these withdrawals. It's above average for a premier event. It's just not totally stacked like the entry list was.

I guess the bigger problem is that...

Re: How big is actually the difference between winning a GS and YEC?

The other thing is that beating players outside the top 10 at grand slams can be much more impressive than beating spent top 8 players at the YEC. The players at the latter stages of grand slams tend...

Re: Why did Kerber win a slam before Radwanska and Wozniacki?

The first paragraph of this hits the nail on the head. Your level is influenced by the level of your opponent. Serena looked devastating coming into the final. But her opposition had been very poor,...

Re: Olympic Games - No WTA ranking points will be offered

Which will 100% fail. Tbh I don't think they can be naive enough for it to be this.

The biggest beneficiaries from this will be players further down the rankings who have no real shot at the...

Re: Olympic Games - No WTA ranking points will be offered

Think you have misread my post somewhere. I am not arguing this. I am arguing the opposite in fact. That WTA awarding no points changes nothing in terms of the prestige of the event, all the top...

Re: Why did Kerber win a slam before Radwanska and Wozniacki?

You are comparing apples to oranges though. First you are talking about Henin and Graf. Now you are talking about Sharapova. Nobody is comparing Kerber to any of these players. The topic isn't even...

Re: Olympic Games - No WTA ranking points will be offered

People using the not an open tournament argument. No tournament is completely open. Every tournament is going to be a restricted to players below a certain ranking. It's not the 80s anymore where...

Re: Olympic Games - No WTA ranking points will be offered

Is a joke really. The only event that maybe on par with grand slams awarding no points. Meanwhile a load of events around it that will be weaker as a result will be giving out loads of gift points.

Re: Why did Kerber win a slam before Radwanska and Wozniacki?

This ignores any depth or context though. Because it just assumes any day Serena lost she had a bad day, any day Serena won she had a good day. That's not true at all though.

Of course everyone...

*Even though Sharapova is down for Doha, I have seen it said that she won't play before Indian Wells.

Re: Where can Aga/Caro/Simona go from here, now that Angie is a GS winner?

A lot more crapping around goes on at the tour events though. Just look at the recent ones, and how many withdrawals they had, that would never happen at grand slams. Same with people withdrawing...

Re: Barry Cowan prediction

Is it me or does the headline of this article not go with the actual quotes in the article. The headline is Serena will win the next 3 grand slams. But none of the quotes say that. The quotes say...

Re: Pushers DO win slams

What is lost is that Angie won by going out of her comfort zone. When she gets too defensive is when she is very vulnerable (especially vs the top players). It was pretty obvious in Brisbane she'd...

Re: Aus Open Final: (7) Angie Kerber SHOCKS (1) Serena Williams 6-4 3-6 6-4

So happy for Angie. From match point down in R1 to this. Angie has worked so hard to change her game, be more aggressive, which she needed to do to win big titles, and look at the result :worship:.

Re: Match Fixing Concerns

You can talk about cases where evidence has been provided or in the mainstream media. You cannot make accusations against anybody, this includes non-tennis people without any evidence.

This thread...

Re: AO '16 QF: Kerber def. Azarenka 6-3 7-5

How is this press conference even supposedly so bad?

When half the questions are along the lines of "why did you under perform?"

This doesn't seem noteworthy all to me. People concentrating...

Re: AO '16 QF: Kerber kills Azarenka's career 6-3 7-5

People underestimate how easy it is to give a gracious interview 15 minutes after you lost.

You're disappointed, you've had zero opportunity for reflection, and some of the time you're going to...

Re: AO '16 QF: Kerber def. Azarenka 6-3 7-5

I thought the mistake Vika made was in starting so bad. This led to her downfall from the off. It was unexpected too, Vika should have gone into this match full of confidence in both her form and vs...

Re: Is it mean to double bagel a player?

No obviously not. It's top level competitive sport, not a charity. You are there to do a job for yourself.

Re: Match Fixing Concerns

Some people will have more moral fibre than that though. Sometimes in life it comes down to what is right and what is wrong.

You can also apply this to anything, and many sports with lower tiers....

Re: Match Fixing Concerns

You will never prove in a court of law someone guilty of match fixing with an irregular betting pattern. Match fixing convictions are very hard to prove.

There's a lot more to tennis than the 2...

Re: Hantuchova takes over Radwanska's spot

I think the idea of byes is to get top players to play. To try and entice them into playing. You could certainly argue that the byes make no difference at all to who signs up though. There are...

Re: Ivanovic Takes a WC into Sydney

Ivanovic is a year end top 20 player therefore entitled to a top 20 wildcard. Azarenka wasn't.
