Re: USO R4 : [1] Serena Williams def. [19] Madison Keys 63 63

As some have noted (well, like 3 of 207 posts), that was such an intelligent performance from Serena.

Aside from the serving, you rarely see her completely relinquish control of the match as she...

Re: Official name change thread Volume 2 (check post #1 for rules)

Re: Official name change thread Volume 2 (check post #1 for rules)

Could you change my name to Agape please? (or Agape. if that is taken). Thanks.

Re: Toronto R1: Sabine Lisicki d. Venus Williams 6-0, 6-3

She won 7 slams with this game and was the second most successful player of her generation. She's now at an age at which the vast majority of top players are long retired, and (as in her case) those...

Re: How many GS titles should Masha have won if Serena wasn't a tennis player?

If Serena wasn't a tennis player, half the tour would probably still be moonballing and Sharapova as we know her (overly intense and demonstrative tall big hitter) probably wouldn't exist.

Re: Is It Correct For Maria To Peddle Sugarpova While Playing Fed Cup?

Actually, given how most food/items at tennis tournaments are fucking extortionate prices, they're the few places where overpriced Sugarpova fits in well. And tennis may not be a country club sport...

Re: Will Venus ever enter the top 10 again?

She can, at the very least, make most of that back with just solid, unspectacular showings at Dubai and Doha.

And even if she doesn't beat Keys/break the top 10 this week, she'll be just outside &...

Re: Generation Nxt. & Their Top 10 Wins

Kerber, Jankovic, Wozniacki and Errani (though not so much here). Giving every man, woman and child their some of their first top 10 wins

Re: Hopman Cup RR (CAN 1-0 USA) : Eugenie Bouchard def. Serena Williams 6-2 6-1

Excuse? Who exactly said I'm a Serena fan? And the Hopman Cup being an exhibition event is a fucking fact.

It was a response to people pretending to be surprised at Serena pulling a performance...

Re: Hopman Cup RR (CAN 1-0 USA) : Eugenie Bouchard def. Serena Williams 6-2 6-1

Has no one here ever seen Serena play an exhibition before?

Considering how her Australian Opens went in recent years after she beat up on her opposition in Brisbane, wouldn't be surprised...

Re: Peak Kvitova vs Peak Davenport Wimbledon final?

Davenport's serve is much better. Kvitova served well at Wimbledon and the grass aids it, but it really isn't that big of a weapon. Her serve speeds are very average.

Kvitova moves better than...

Re: Quebec City QF shitfest: (1/WC) V.Williams def. Hradecka 6-3 4-6 7-6(7-3)

20 years into her career, Venus is finally trying to use her brain on the court. In the tiebreak she just played very consistent tennis and only attacked when the ball was short. She was even...

Re: Jennifer Capriati coming back?

Always bizarre when people talk about legacies being "tarnished". Capriati (very likely) flopping horribly while trying to return won't remove the three Slam titles on her shelf. I'm not her biggest...

Re: Whose technique would you recommend to a beginner?

yep, though Venus' technique off the ground has improved a ton over the years. Her forehand is a much, much smaller and simpler stroke than it used to be and she uses a lot more hip and rotation...

Re: Most impressive set of wigs snatched en route to a title?

As for the toughest slam draws, a lot are already mentioned, but in general the vast majority of runs from quarterfinals onwards in that early 00s period were incredible. Serena beat Seles, Davenport...

Re: Most impressive set of wigs snatched en route to a title?

Funny seeing Sharapova fans constantly mentioning the 2008 Australian Open. She did play great and played a lot of names, but aside from Henin (who, retrospectively, was already on her way out), they...
