Re: What shall we expect from Sharapova in 2018?

You overestimate how much you need to do to crack the top 30 I think. Most players in the lower end of the top 30 will have negative records vs the top 30. In fact that won 4, lost 5 record vs top 30...

Re: Welcome to the Top 10 Kristina Mladenovic!

It just shows you how long the rankings take to catch up with reality. As Mladenovic was #9 in the race for a long time, didn't actually win a match in that time frame, but was only overtaken by...

Re: WTA Announces Year End Awards Nominations List

The voting for this ending before YEC even starts is silly given that could shape who really is Player of the Year. Muguruza will definitely win though.

Re: Hong Kong - A sad tournament

Any tournament this time of year is going to suffer badly unless Singapore is all to play for. Players have got their eyes on Singapore, the off season etc. You'd probably be better off ending the...

Re: Race to Singapore: Garcia chasing Konta for the last spot in YEC

The first point is for sure possible. Garcia could arrive exhausted if she has to play every week to get there, but it doesn't change my view that she's more likely to put up a good showing than...

Re: Race to Singapore: Garcia chasing Konta for the last spot in YEC

Will it really? If Konta was playing well I could see this as people get interested if a Brit is in the mix. The way she is playing though I would say it's highly likely she goes 0-3, which I don't...

Re: ATP Hamburg Aims To Buy WTA Nuremberg License, Become Combined Event

This doesn't even make sense. There is already a dearth of clay court events before Roland Garros. You can't have just 1 international the week before surely, yet if you believed this news they would...

Re: Beijing R2: [9]Ostapenko d. Stosur 6-3 7-5

It's made worse by her first serve % too. It's generally low 50s, this is way too low if you're gonna have a second serve that is as bad as hers, and puts way too much pressure on your serve by...

Re: Race to Singapore: Halep, Pliskova, Svitolina & Venus Officially Qualify for YEC

Ostapenko has officially qualified now btw with Konta's withdrawal from Hong Kong.

Re: Race to Singapore: Halep, Pliskova, Svitolina & Venus Officially Qualify for YEC

She has a chance but it's a pretty small one. She needs to make SF to even stay in the race, and realistically needs to make final to keep it interesting as SF would leave her needing lots to do last...

Re: Who deserves to be in Singapore more: Konta or US Open Champ Stephens?

Maybe irrelevant to the idea of the thread, not really sure, but WTA have supposedly already confirmed they won't use the WC. BT Sport contacted them about this and WTA responded saying it won't be...

Re: Beijing R1: Niculescu d. Konta 61 62

Konta looks the nailed on 0-3 at YEC this year tbh. There's always someone who comes in in horrendous form. She is getting worse week on week atm, confidence has to be very low at this point. Still...

Re: Race to Singapore: Halep, Pliskova, Svitolina & Venus Officially Qualify for YEC

Yes the true cutoff is 4540 atm.

Ostapenko is almost certainly qualified though. Without winning a match next week one of Mladenovic, Kuznetsova, Stephens, Vandeweghe has to make the final, and...

Re: Race to Singapore: Halep, Pliskova, Svitolina & Venus Officially Qualify for YEC

There's no way Ostapenko is officially in if you take into account people could get late WC's. She should be officially in after next week, but that 4020 cutoff cannot be official as it's quite easy...

Re: Wuhan SF: Barty d. Ostapenko 6-3 6-0

The bad part of the schedule really was yesterday. What tournament schedules the QF's in a fashion that the winner of QF 1 is playing QF 4? That's just scheduling 101 to not do that.

Re: WWW China Open?

I feel like Svitolina's taking a break could pay dividends here. A lot of this time of year tends to be who has the most left.

Re: Wuhan SF: Barty d. Ostapenko 6-3 6-0

Surely this doesn't make sense. I agree that it's tennis, but at the same time it is an excuse, that is what happens.

The thing is though it wasn't solely that here, yes that didn't help, but it's...

Re: 9 years later, is the Asian Swing a failure?

Yes but you can't create a schedule where by definition the US Open winner isn't going to play. You really think WTA would want that too. You need about 5 days just to adjust to the vastly different...

Re: 9 years later, is the Asian Swing a failure?

Calendar could probably do with expanding, not by this much though. Also this much change is always going to be tough to implement.

The best change that could probably me made with little upheaval...

Re: 9 years later, is the Asian Swing a failure?

Having a Premier 5 in Tokyo's date would be ridiculous. Way too close to the US Open to have a big tour event on the other side of the world in.

Re: Wuhan Premier 5 · R2: Sakkari (quali/№80) zaps "new & improved" Wozniacki 7-5 6-3

It definitely is the case. Back in like the 1970s the Australian Open was very much the poor relation of the slams, for a variety of reasons. The grand slams weren't as big as today, and obviously...

Re: 9 years later, is the Asian Swing a failure?

Problem is for tennis on Amazon to be successful the market has to move towards Amazon. Remember this is a very localised thing, this deal is only in the UK. For the market to move towards Amazon in...

Re: 9 years later, is the Asian Swing a failure?

I know you keep painting this Amazon deal as a success, it isn't, it's a failure. This wasn't some big coup where they blew everyone out of the water in a major bidding war, they effectively picked...

Re: Wuhan R2 Sakkari zaps "peak" Wozniacki 7-5 6-3

The average sports fans view of slams is higher than people on TF. In the general sports world slam count is literally all that matters. That's why you've got ESPY's with the 4 candidates being the...

Re: Wuhan R1: Wang def. (14) Stephens 6-2 6-2

People act surprised at this every year, yet it happens every year. The US Open, Wuhan turnaround is way too fast so the US Open winner is at a disadvantage. Since WTA changed the calendar in 2009...
