Re: Hobart QR2: 16-year-old Naiktha Bains (AUS) def. Teliana Pereira (BRA) 6-3 6-3

Yes a little bit through junior Fed Cup but Nicole is not her day-to-day coach. Gary Stickler, who worked with Pat Rafter in his early days is still listed as one of her coaches. Nicole has more to...

Re: Most remember -bitchy WTA quotes?

I think Arantxa's tendency to question alot of calls really annoyed Jana during a singles match they played and she said as much during a post-match interview. I think she ended up going a bit too...

Re: Most remember -bitchy WTA quotes?

Chris gave Hana a hiding in that match. It was customary for both players to walk off the centre court together and courtesy to royalty. Chris made Hana wait a while to pack up her bag, in which Hana...

Re: chanelle scheepers deserves credit

Hopefully there's some improvement, but its' really dropped away since the days of Coetzer and Ferreira (not that there was much support for players during then either). Atleast in the 80's they had...

Re: chanelle scheepers deserves credit

According to Sam Smith, commentating at the Brisbane International, Chanelle credits her rise to the support of Leisel Huber and her husband. Gave her a base in the USA to train and supported her...

Re: AOR1: Galina Voskoboeva def. [28] Yanina Wickmayer 7-5 6-2

Saw a set of this match. Yanina was cruising at 5-3 through Galina's forehand errors and ill advised drop shots and the occasional Yanina winner. Galina hits a pretty good squash shot off the...

Re: chanelle scheepers deserves credit

Credit to Chanelle, she has got herself very fit than when I last saw her 3 years ago. Hits a nice flat ball, the serve needs a little bit of work still.

Re: Tennis at 2010 Commonwealth Games

You'd think she'd get a shot in the mixed too - but I suppose they are going for their strongest team. Peers and Ebden is a good combo as well as Natsya and Hanley - tho I think Mirza and Paes will...

Re: Tennis at 2010 Commonwealth Games

Love this tournie. Nastya for the triple crown!!

Actually the qtrs look pretty decent. Erakovic vs. Mirza and I think Watson will take it to Nastya.

So Jess Moore is only here for the...

Re: two-handed on both sides??

Double-handers on both sides - Akiko Kijimuta, one of the Serra Zanetti's.

One of the greatest of all time Marg Court was a leftie, but was told that no top players were lefthanders and changed...

Re: Miami Qualies R1 Casey Def Shenaynay 7-5 5-7 6-3!

Been a bit of a problem since her comeback, had trouble closing both her matches at the AO. Probably still just trying to settle the nerves down since being away from the tour so long.

Re: Most heartbreaking loss and the best ever defensive skills: 1998 FO final.

It was extremely emotional in that Monica's dad had passed away not that long before the FO. It was like the FO was going to be her destiny after beating Hingis. Monica wore her dad's wedding ring on...

Re: Why do people forget about Margaret Court's 24 Slam titles, and Helen Will's 19?

Great research mate - thanks for that :)

I also know during the 60's that often the Australian tennis officialdom often either couldn't be bothered attracting overseas stars to Australia or would...

Re: The craziest WTA matches of all time?

Zina Garrison defeating Martina Navratilova US Open 1989 I think.
Zina lead 6-4 5-0, with Martina yelling at a fan in the crowd to 'shut up' when he told her to 'wake up'. This seemed to spark...

Re: Christina MCHALE def. Polona Hercog 6-3 6-1

No surprise. Impressed when I saw Christina in Australia.
Clocks the ball well off both sides, it was only her conditioning that let her down in AO by the barest margins, 9-7 in the 3rd.

Re: Has there been any top tennis players from Lithuania and Latvia before?

Norway had a player in the top 200 in the last 80's, Amy Jonsson - left handed player. Managed to play a centre court match against Steffi Graf at the 1R AO - 88 I think.

1984 French Open Chris Evert def Camille Benjamin 60 60.
Chris nearlly done it in 1982 AO to Andrea Jaegar 60 61 who was much tougher opposition.

Re: Disappointing & Successful Former Junior Champions

She also lost in the AO girls single final I in 1992 (I think) to an Aussie Joanne Limmer who had huge wraps at the time. Struck down by injuries and despite winning a round at the AO as a wild card...

Re: How in hell did Martinez manage to beat Navratilova at '94 Wimbledon final ?

Plus in 2 of the 3 matches prior to the final she played serve and volleyers in long three setters - Kristine Radford 6-4 in the third and Lori McNeil 11-9, 10-8 or something in the 3rd. By that time...

Re: PVB 1st round: Sam Stosur vs Caroline Wozniacki. WWW?

Good post. Before her illness she was really developing a good game on clay. But she needs matches on it before she will gain any form IMO. Caro will adapt easier and will probably win this one.
