Re: Hypothetically speaking, if Hingis wins 30 more doubles / mixed doubles slams and

I'm not sure I agree with that. You could imagine cases where people with wildly successful doubles careers with several slams, especially if that person also had a pretty stand-up singles career...

Re: Who Has Had A Better Career Ivanovic or Jankovic

It's not as wild of a question as some people are making it out to be. Yes, I think the edge goes to Ivanovic, but you've got to look at the highlights and lowlights to make a complete evaluation....

Re: San Diego moving to Chicago?

A lot of things. The article makes valid points about having to change tier status, scheduling issues, etc. But if you ask me, what happened in Carlsbad is isn't that unusual, and has happened to...

Re: San Diego moving to Chicago?

It doesn't have to be held in a permanent venue. Atlanta's tournament is literally held in a parking lot.

Re: San Diego moving to Chicago?

Shame if this proves to be true. Carlsbad is my favorite event from a fan standpoint on the WTA Tour.

Also, moving an event to Chicago in the middle of summer makes about as much sense as holding...

Re: Scrap the US Open Series

That's better than its first year - 2004. That year Davenport won Stanford, Carlsbad, LA, and Cincinnati. Mauresmo won/only played Montreal. They were tied for first, with Davenport only winning...

Re: Stanford FQR: Lertcheewakarn def. Vandeweghe 2-6, 6-2, 7-5

Coco puzzles me. I don't know what has been holding her back, but her game is explosive. She's 20, and she should be solidly into the top 100 at this point.

Re: OMG..Serena just dropped dime on Mary Jo...

MJF has been pretty solidly in the pro-Williams camp over the years.

I don't know any situation you're referring to in particular, but one cannot forget the years when Serena was pretty openly...

Re: Does anyone else believe Venus is the better player?

False. You're obviously forgetting Peak Pierce. That one even has Federer shaking in her boots.

Re: Greater Player: Dementieva or Ivanovic?

Had Justine not requested to be removed from the rankings, Ana wouldn't have reached #1 until July with Justine sitting out and doing nothing. That's pretty bad.

You said that a single grand...

Re: Greater Player: Dementieva or Ivanovic?

Do you really want to talk about the circumstances surrounding Ivanovic attaining that ranking in the first place?

True. She'll always have Bali.

Really? Ask Iva Majoli about that...

Re: Greater Player: Dementieva or Ivanovic?

Dementieva. Top players would want to avoid her like the plague. Yes, she had her off days where she would be blown off court, but she could also beat anyone on any day up until the day she...

Re: Quickest descent from #1 rank?

I think Mauresmo lost a lot of motivation after 2006. She finally won her slams and conquered her demons. She really didn't handle defending those slams very well, but the bottom line was that...

Re: Quickest descent from #1 rank?

Davenport went from being ranked #1 at the end of 2005 to #25 at the end of 2006. She only played in 8 events in 2006 because of injury/pregnancy, but it's still quite a drop.

Re: Rank these 5 players best to worst (Kimberly, Masha fierce, Vee, Justine, Davenpo

That's a joke, anyway you look at at.

From a pure ability standpoint, Davenport can't be 5. She's arguably one of the most underachieving "greats" in the game. And Clijsters can't be 1, for the...

Re: Zvonareva - weakest # 2 ever?

The criticism with number ones in the last decade have been their slam results (Wozniacki, Hingis, Davenport, Clijsters, Mauresmo).

Zvonareva comes out of left field to reach two consecutive slam...

Re: Is Lindsay Davenport's defense underrated?

I think that was a major part of it. Lindsay got herself into incredible shape for the last few years of her career, but most of her injuries dealt with the lower extremities. I really believe that...

Re: One Slam Wonders...

Going by the definition (one slam only), then go for it. But from a "stigma" standpoint (if you can call it that), it's asinine to put Martinez on that list. She came across Pierce in 2000 (who by...

Re: Weird tennis pattern, any explanation?

It happens at all the slams. Off the top of my head at the slams, Fernandez at 2002 RG and Zuluaga at AO 2004 come to mind. I can't think of any randoms who made the semis at the USO recently, but...

Re: San Diego R2: (Q)Coco Vandeweghe def. (3)Vera Zvonareva 26 75 64

What a great job by Coco.

I first saw Coco play in her WTA debut here four years ago. It was clear then that she had talent, and I'm so glad for her that she seems to finally be getting the...

Re: Davenport doubles ranking

Maybe because she should have entered singles.

While I'm joking in regards to that bit... it's a question. Davenport's number one asset is her ball striking ability and near-perfect timing. ...

Re: Underachieving VS Being Over-rated

Not really. Hingis only made four more slam finals after that. In 2000 and 2001 she was just completely outplayed by two players who showed up and played some of the best tennis of their careers.

Re: Jennifer Capriati Hospitalized After Apparent OD

Regardless of how you felt of her as a player (fan, hater, indifferent, etc.), this really is a sad development if it is true.

The idea of forming an identity outside of tennis is obviously a...

Re: Wimbledon Mixed R2: (6) Mattek-Sands/Nestor d. Davenport/B. Bryan 6-4 3-6 11-9

Lindsay's biggest issue by far is movement. I've never seen her so slow on a court. I also don't think her serve was working as well today as it was yesterday - just not a lot of pop on it.

But,...
