because the Tier system only came in back end of Martina career (1988) its impossible to compare her titles to players of today and even the events that were big were given low tier ratings...

Navratilova needs to be respected for what she did I mean she is one of only two women to ever complete a boxed set with the other being Court.

I thought you were upset about no points while in the grand scheme of things points for Olympics is a recent addition really I mean prior to 2004 players competed...

the WTA won't block top players from playing will they?

Don't they have a rule the top players can't play a small event if there is a bigger event same week and since pts are not being awarded...

on the flip before pts were introduced i.e 90s it never stopped top players from entering either ;)

I mean in 1992 we had Graf, Capriati and Sanchez vicario for example just to name a few players.

ahh ok I just knew for sure 90s and 2000 were not points was just prestige of the event :)

from memory Olympics in 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 offered no points.

2012 is the only olympics to date that ever offered points.

depth may be stronger in the WTA but the depth of the top 8 or so is pretty bad.

These days beating Serena and possibly Pova is all that is required to win a major and most players don't even need...

could that be due to not playing doubles as much these days?

I remember in their primes Venus and Serena often said doubles helped that aspect of their games or words to that effect.
