Re: Serena's place in history even without 22

The introduction of "open era" was relevant for men's tenis only. Can you name any important female tennis player that had been refused participation in Grand Slam events before 1968 due to her...

Re: Radwanska proves that you can vulture the YEC title (but not a Slam)

Everything can be vultured. The world is full of vultures and especially the world of tennis. Poor folks from this forum are permanently being haunted by these ugly birds.

Re: Radwanska proves that you can vulture the YEC title (but not a Slam)

Happened 1.5 months ago. :p[/QUOTE]

Not really. Flavia met just two Top 5 rivals en route for her USO title: Petra and Simona. The last time when a GS champion had to meet three Top 5 players was...

She'll actually get 2054K: 151K participation fee + 153K for one RR win + 590K for the semi win + 1160K for the final. Forty thousand $ believed to be a reward for reaching the semis is actually a...

Re: Kerber & Radwanska have qualified for WTA finals

Only if Aga would have resigned afterwards, yet still prior to Release of the Order of Play. But Angie could not know for sure whether Aga woukd win her final nor when she'd quit in this case.

Re: Radwanska says players should not be required to play WTA Elite Trophy

Those "Elite Trophys", "Tournaments of Champions" etc all are incarnations of the same lame idea. They should abandon it. WTA Champs should be the definitive closure of the season, nothing else.

Re: Is the cygs a bigger deal than the non-cygs?

"So much" easier? But I said the difference wasn't very substantial.

But there were five instances of a player having won three consecutive majors, thus being just one title from a...

Re: Is the cygs a bigger deal than the non-cygs?

Wining a CYGS means to win four consecutive majors, starting from AusOpen. To win a non-CYGS, you can start from RG, from Wimby or from USO. So - if you take into account that every human achievement...

Re: QF of ALL FOUR SLAMS in a CALENDAR YEAR

It would be just to emphasize it in the opening post, I think.

And - was the "opening" of Grand Slam in 1968 as substantial for women's tennis as it was for the men's rivalry?

Re: QF of ALL FOUR SLAMS in a CALENDAR YEAR

It only proves that it is harder to reach QF nowadays than it was before. In other words - that the level of to-day players is more balanced than earlier. Why should we assume that a better balance...

Re: Agnieszka Radwanska grunt during Wimbledon

Aga's grunting when hitting a ball, just like Serena and many other players. Vika's shrieking and Maria's roaring at this action: that's the difference.

Re: Barbara Schett - is she the prettiest and sexiest commentator ever?

Don't know whether Babs is actually prettier than, say, Anabel Croft, but certainly more likeable. She's got this hard to define, though easily recognized, feminine charm, which has become so rare...

Re: Does anyone even notice grunting anymore?

Grunting is tolerable, but Masha's roaring isn't.

Re: The World's Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2014

Ah so. Your post was a bit misleading then. You wrote 'This time last year she was below even Ivanovic', which suggested that you meant a ranking that is being updated more often than once a year....

Re: $2.44M WTA Wuhan entry list is out

My guess is Serena. She's going to celebrate her 33rd birthday during this tournament, and she's not Roger to do it with just a glass of milk... ;)

Re: The World's Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2014

Not really. She cracked Top 5 in February 2012 and has stayed there since. Actually, Aga's the only WTA player that has been in Top 5 this long.
