Re: Friendliest/Least friendly players?

From my interactions:

Davenport: Friendly, but I think basically quite shy, so can appear aloof or curt.

Ivanovic: Met her 5 years apart, and had that same bubbly quality. But you can feel she...

Re: Could have, should have won Wimbledon?

A bit of local pride ... I think Yayuk, on grass, was a top tenner, or at least one of the top 15 women of her time on grass (that would also include Tauziat, Schultz McCarthy, McGrath)

Re: Could have, should have won Wimbledon?

Barker should have taken out Stove in that semifinal, she has joked about Billie Jean King telling her in the locker room that it was for hers to win, and that was what jinxed her. I think she lost...

Re: Could have, should have won Wimbledon?

Regarding the Navratilova quote about Sabatini, maybe she meant if somehow Gaby was able to recapture the form of 1990-1991, when she was playing confidently enough to hold a winning record against...

Re: What's really happened to women's tennis (The Guardian-Long Article)

Bud Collins (Budd, as written in the article, is wrong) seems to be getting his facts wrong regarding the Rosie Casals thing. I've seen a photo of the incident; her standing discussing it with the...

Re: Article - A look at the best players never to win Wimbledon

I've written a similar article on the greats who should have won Wimbledon, out in our Sunday edition, from the past 40

My picks, men and women:

1. Ken Rosewall: Stylish, he should have...

Re: The Best Tennis Incidents Hall of Fame

Neither am I, but she sure had her say. They had put up with a lot from the crowd, and I guess Peer's classless antics were a bit too much. Peer's reaction was funny though -- she put one hand on her...

Re: The Best Tennis Incidents Hall of Fame

It's not on Youtube anymore unfortunately, but there used to be the end of Sharapova's match against Peer
in the Fed Cup, the day after she had dealt with the Israeli crowd against Obziler (and Peer...

Re: Carlos Rodriguez frank views on the WTA Tour (Henin's coach)

I think we're misunderstanding what he meant by "charisma". He's not talking about personalities of
the players, but the little extra that they bring to the game. So they have the ability to change...

Re: Who are the MOST talented female players of all time?

I tend to agree with the poster who said talent and achievement are two different things. Talent takes you so far, and then it takes the hard work and mental smarts to see you through to the top. Of...

Retirement not looming for Jill Craybas

There was a thread a day or two ago about whether Jill would/should retire. Here is a story from last week's Bali tournament, where Jill says she's still enjoying the game.

Age shall not weary...

Re: Muslim Sania

It's a headscarf, not a veil (which would be covering the face).

Yayuk Basuki, and several other Indonesian players, are all Muslim, but it's not an issue. And we have a regional champion extreme...

Re: From a purely business standpoint, WTA is probably better off without Henin.

[QUOTE=OrdinaryfoolisNJ;13185850]How ironic that a non-beauty was responsible for founding the WTA (Billie Jean King).

That's true, but Billie Jean King, from many accounts, realized the...

Re: Have you ever hit with a player and where ? :)

When I was about 14, and we had just moved to Ridgewood in New Jersey, I wanted to play tennis again. I had played like two tournaments in the UK. Anyway, we showed up at Fair Lawn Tennis Club, if...

Re: How does Camille Pin challenge the top players so much ?

She's fast, got great anticipation, has the smarts and has a different style that few of the players now so used to slugging it out from the baseline are used to facing these days. In a way, she is...

Novan Does His Sharapova Impression

Pretty funnny! I didn't think he would do it -- because of all the potential for people to wag their fingers and tut-tutt, "no making fun of Maria here..." -- but he did a spot-on impression at the...
