Re: Carlsbad:QF: Jennifer Brady def Marina Melnikova: 6/2 7/5. Qualifies for AO Q dra

Actually most of the top tier college programs allow their former top players to finish their degrees on scholarship as undergraduate assistant coaches if their pro aspirations don't materialize...

Re: Could a team competition be included in the Olympics?

I clicked the first option, but specifically I think FedCup should be cancelled in Olympic years and played instead at the Olympics in a modified format (maybe 16 team draw, 3 rubbers per match).

Re: Jamie Hampton to comeback next week at WTA125 Carlsbad

I would like to be optimistic as a big Jamie fan, but it's almost surely this. She last played in January 2014 (technically week of Dec 30 2013). If she doesn't come back within 2 years, she cannot...

Re: Bojana Jovanovski goes to wrong Carlsbad, 900 miles away from match

In honor of Carlsbad's glorious return to the calendar as a 125k.

And guess who's on the entry list :secret:

Re: Is tennis the top sport for women in your country?

The WNBA's average salary is 72k and the season is also only 4 months long during the summer. Meaning the players can either get a "real" job for the rest of the year or make easily twice their WNBA...

Re: Sporcle Quiz: WTA Players of 2015

The WTA uses the IOC country codes, so it would be most clear to use those.

South Africa: RSA
Malaysia: MAS
Latvia: LAT
Montenegro: MNE (MON = Monaco so this was by far the most confusing for...

Re: No Serena in RACE ranking, fair or not

It's pretty dumb imo. Obviously no one outside the top 20 or 15 or whatever it is now is going to be going to Singapore either.

They need to make up their mind - either it is a list of points...

Re: Ana Ivanovic's coach in Beijing is a guy born in 1993

WTA/TV will announce as coach whoever the player signs in for on-court coaching whether it is an actual coach, trainer, hitting partner, sports psychologist, boyfriend, girlfriend or whatever...

Re: New site look and software upgrade Feedback Thread

The sidebar is annoying but the update seems fine for the most part. I mean compared to the RG and Wimbledon site updates this year, this might have to be considered an amazing success.

The other...

Re: What's the North American definition of 'journeywoman'?

For purposes of articles by moron journalists like Chris Chase and other mainstream media who don't know anything about tennis, this is exactly what it means.

Of course, someone who actually...

Re: 36 tournaments within a year.

36 is pretty mediocre. Cohen's record was 43 or something.

Re: Guangzhou FAIL Entry List - really wrong translated name!

It always happens at the Asian tournaments:

Tokyo MM is headlined this year by Ira Tom Llano B*tch.

Re: Quebec City R1: Pegula def. Gibbs 1-6 7-6 7-6

Pretty high quality post-match racket smash by Gibbs, but then they cut the stream so we didn't get to see the full tirade

Re: Vote 4 Players to the WTA Rising Stars 2015 in Singapore

The criteria is listed right on the voting page.

As you'd expect most respectable players can't be bothered except for the likes of Garcia who will presumably be in Singapore anyways for...

Re: Mary Joe Fernandez: "I hate when players say 'I got nothig to lose'"

I tend to agree.

Of course I also hate when journalists and pre-match/on-court reporters (e.g. Mary Joe) ask players pointless questions when they darn well know the only possible PC response is...

Re: Congrats Venus Ebony Starr Williams, New College Graduate

There are some 15 or 20 WTA girls in this program at IU East now (Alla K, Falconi, Rodionovas, Lepchenko, Duval to name a few), so it's pretty exciting for the WTA to have its first player graduate. ...

Re: US Open R1 Monica Niculescu def Alexandra Panova 7-6(3) 5-7 6-3

Not quite. Brengle/Saisai slightly outdid Monica with a 3:20 thriller yesterday.

Re: US Open R1 (Q) Jessica Pegula def Alison'6 matches losing streak'Van Uytvanck 7-5

Just saw bits and pieces but AVU looked sooooo bad. Among "future #1"s, she seems to be following in Caroline Garcia's footsteps.

Jessie was solid and it looks like she's definitely dropped some...

Re: FINAL US Open doubles entry list

This is surprising? She's basically become the Julia Cohen of the doubles circuit with 36 tournaments on her ranking and a losing record for the year. It was a nice try to enter with USTA fave Davis,...

Re: FINAL US Open doubles entry list

I can see both sides. OTOH, how is a singles player ever supposed to improve their doubles ranking when they can't get into any regular WTA tournaments (and there is no qualifying for doubles)? Right...

Re: FINAL US Open doubles entry list

So most of the wildcard teams didn't bother to enter? I guess they don't have to, but curious to see who ends up getting those spots.

I'm kind of expecting most of the players who got "snubbed"...
