Re: Live Commentary Thread vol61

That Putintseva-Pfizenmaier match is, no joke, the worst match of tennis I have ever seen on WTA level.

Re: Bucharest QF: Niculescu def. Hercog 6-2 2-6 7-6(3)

The funny thing is that for the majority of the match, Hercog's backhand looked like her better or at least more reliable shot. Apart from a string of games in the second set, she was never really...

Re: Bucharest R1: Piter def Mitu 6:0 1:6 7:6(5)

The crowd was a bit over the top in the final stages of the match, I agree, but then again shouldn't we be happy to finally see a WTA event again where the stands are full on a R1 match and where the...

Re: Bad Gastein R1: [Q] Ana Bogdan def. Ajla Tomljanovic; 6-3, 3-0 RET

Good week for Ana. She had some luck, but that's the way tennis goes.

There is a tournament in her home country this week. She could have easily applied for a wildcard there which would have made...

Re: Bucharest Open R1: Cristina Dinu def. Nadiia Kichenok 6-0, 6-3

Cristina played better than I expected. She missed a couple of months with injuries, but this is no doubt a huge win for her.

Kichenok should be happy she made the Top 100, even though it was just...

Re: Bukareszt R1: Niculescu def Koukalova 6:3 6:0

Seconded.

Looked as if Klara regretted her tankjob during the last game and especially during the handshake. As other people said, Monica's over-the-top reaction on some visibly loose shots made...

Re: WWW 1st Ever XWTA Bucharest MM 280 (MD Inside) ???

Could have been a better draw, but there are still a couple of in-form players in the qualifying event that didn't make it in directly because of the early cut-off.

I expect Simona to actually...

Re: Wimbledon SF: [13] Cakewalk Killa Genie Bouchard def. [3] Simona Halep 76(5) 62

I congratulate Eugenie on reaching her first slam final out there. She was the better player today, but I still see Kvitova as the heavy favorite to win Wimbledon.

As for Simona, I hope she is...

Re: Wimbledon R1: [3] Halep def. Pereira 6-2 6-2

Pretty solid tennis from Simona. Her passing shots were crazy good and her serving the best for quite some time.

On the other hand we shouldn't get carried away by this result as Pereira is...

Re: Wimbledon R1: Alison Van Uytvanck def Monica Niculescu, 7-5 6-3

Pretty important for Van Uytvanck to win this match. I really didn't expect that.

Less unexpected is the way in which Monica lost the match and that first set in particular. While players usually...

Re: 's-Hertogenbosch R2: A. Beck def (1) S. Halep 5-7 3-2 ret.

Simona knew that she would have stood on court for another hour if she hadn't finished the match as soon as possible because Beck would have probably still found a way to lose this set as well.
...

Re: Simona Halep is the female Djokovic

I think it's unfortunate to compare Simona with Djokovic right now. Although I do see some similarities in the point construction, Djokovic to me is first and foremost a brutal physical force. He is...

Re: Monica Niculescu has lost 4 times in 2014, after being match point up

They all did, but Simona is the only one where the come-backs outweigh the chokes.

I'm kind not to include the win/loss ratio for TBs which looks equally shocking for all of them.

Re: Monica Niculescu has lost 4 times in 2014, after being match point up

Romanian Tennis Players since 2012: (wasted SPs), (wasted MPs)

Simona Halep: 15, 0
Sorana Cîrstea: 14, 6
Irina-Camelia Begu: 4, 10
Monica Niculescu: 7, 10

Only matches that were eventually...

Re: RG 1R: (26)Cirstea def. Wozniak 6-7(3) 7-5 6-2

This might be just a wake-up call in time for Sorana.

Still, even though she saved a MP here, Sorana's fighting with her nerves. This was her 8th consecutive TB loss on the tour and according to...

Re: RG R1: Simona Halep defeats Alisa Kleybanova 6-0 6-2

Simona was serving quite well, she was solid enough from the baseline, but that's all I can say about her because Kleybanova was just that dreadful on the other end of the net.

I guess that...

Re: RG R1 : Niculesu Took down the first seed (25)Kanepi 57 63 61

I really didn't know about Kaia's injury. Well, in that regard Monica is really one of the players you want to avoid under all circumstances. I wish her a speedy recovery.

It's her first win at RG...

Re: Anybody understand why Schmiedlova is ranked that high?

I can see the problem here, but then again it needs to be said that every other player between 50 and 100 could have done exactly the same. It's not forbidden to focus more on the ITF than on the WTA...

Re: Madrid F: [8] Sharapova def. [4] Halep 1-6, 6-2, 6-3

I agree.

She missed to step it up in the second set once Maria was able to keep the ball in play for more than a couple of shots. She had no answer and was once again too passive. That said, she...

Re: Rome FQR: Petra Cetkovská SAVES 2MP def. [12] Monica Niculescu 4-6, 7-5, 6-1

3rd match Monica lost this year after having wasted MPs.

It's the only way her opponents might implode earlier than she does.

Re: Madrid QF: (4) Halep def. (11) Ivanovic 6-2 6-2

Solid match from Simona, not more, not less.
Ivanovic was dreadful, though, aprticularly on the ROS or generally whenever she tried to be aggressive right from the start of the rally.

Pity that...
