Re: Halep vs Hingis ? What would this be like ?

Hingis should petition for re-instatement. Then we'd see. Or maybe somebody should offer Halep a bunch of money to play team-tennis, and then we'd see. This peak v. peak business is all conjecture.

Re: USO QF : [2] Halep "real n2" Simona denies [20] Viktoria "guest" Azarenka 63 46 6

Where's Johnny? When Halep gets that clear look on her face, as she had so evidently at 3-3 in the third set, her fans have a very good feeling about her chances. She's dialed in. Her intelligence...

Re: WWW US Open QF: [2] Halep vs. [20] Azarenka

I know. Folks 'round here love the trash-talking Pinisher. The one whose sense of her own importance is boundless. The Ayn Rand of mid-match notes. Who would have the audacity to even step onto...

Re: Simona Halep is a sex goddess (confirmed)

Only in America does the admission that you find someone sexy lure the charge that you're creepy. Americans like their sex appeal one or two ways, and garish spectacles of it, please. Really,...

Re: USO R4 : [1] Serena Williams def. [19] Madison Keys 63 63

I agree with those here who are skeptical of the hype around Keys, wonder if it isn't that Lindsay Davenport, Lisa Raymond, Davenport's hubby -- all very well respected and liked in the tennis world,...

Re: BOLD PREDICTION UPDATE: Estonian MYNX Nettu-GOAT Kontaveit to win USO over Konta

She may be showing up for the final, but Kontaveit didn't show up for the round of 16s.

Re: USO R3: (2) Halep def. Rogers 6-2 6-3

Just want to say I do count that as a dance move. Conservative catholic girls need a couple shots before stadiums full of people see their stuff.

Re: U.S. Open R2: Cetkovska def. (4) Wozniacki 6-4 5-7 7-6 (7-1)

Absent results (US Open final is terrific, but it's been a year), the Myth of Caro emerges. Chrissie (who I know most on this board consider an expert on par with Paul Wolfowitz) said last night...

Re: WWW USO R3: Genie Bouchard x Dominika Cibulkova

I like Cibi in this one, but wonder if Conners has gotten into Genie's head sufficiently to make it interesting. Neither is match tough. So it's open, but I watched Bouchard's match the other day...

Re: U.S. Open R2: Cetkovska def. (4) Wozniacki 6-4 5-7 7-6 (7-1)

Fun match to watch on late night U.S. television. Few of those in this tournament. Cetkovskva has a lovely game, big cc fh. Her nerves extended it, but then Caro had 4 mp, and she couldn't close...

Re: US Open R2: Simona Halep def. Kateryna Bondarenko 6-3, 6-4

I agree NID. Halep's been very lucky that she is not on the Grandstand -- she sees the court so much more clearly on Ashe & Louis Armstrong.

Re: USO R1: Gibbs def. Dominguez Lino 63 36 64

Fun match to watch, great win for Gibbs. 1-4 in the third she dug in, played some long points with Dominguez Lino, and discovered that DL was gassed. DL, a 34 year old 18-year veteran, with only one...

Re: Cincinnati FINAL: (1) Serena Williams d. (3) Simona Halep 6-3, 7-6(7-5)

I have been a fan of Halep's on this site since 2012. That said, I thought the match was only interesting for a few games in the second set, when Serena's service level dropped. When Serena's...

Re: New Haven R1 : Caro Garcia def. Timea Bacsinszky 6-3 6-1

Rather than be the 8th or 9th person on this thread to posit WTF's wrong with one of my favorite players, let me advance a theory. The Timea second serve is a tough obstacle to her on hard court,...

Re: Cincy SF: Serena vs Elina Svitolina

Serena, 2 & 2, god willing and the creek don't rise. (I.e., her elbow's solid). (Supersimo, really?)

Re: Cincinnati QF Simona Halep def Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 7-6(3) 6-2

Pavs' first serve was terrific in the first set, and her whole game flows from it. When she's put behind the baseline, as Halep was occasionally able (perhaps not enough!) to do, then her own game...

Re: Cincinnati QF Simona Halep def Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 7-6(3) 6-2

I watched the match last night, and thought Halep was magnificent. Sure she was tired, and not playing her best, but just the look of awareness in her eyes, as she read her opponent and her own...

Re: When was the last time someone beat Serena's A-game?

I agree with the writer above who says the question is a verbal trap. If, like me, you believe Serena is GOAT, then when she's GOATing, ain't nobody beatin' her. She ain't great out of some mean of...

Re: WWW: Toronto F: Belinda Bencic vs. [2] Simona Halep

Should be an interesting match. Bencic likes the Halep power and feeds it back -- much as Halep does. Bencic reads points well, sets them up beautifully, whereas Halep loves to play points that...

Re: WWW WTA Cincinnati?

Perhaps you're right, but if the Toronto final is the war I think it's going to be, Cinci will be a tough assignment.

Re: WWW WTA Cincinnati?

If Serena & Halep meet in the Toronto final you won't see either player at Cinci. This draw is completely random, and completely unfair to the top players. Kiki gets Daniela? Timi gets Madison! go...

Re: WWW Cincy R1: Angelique Kerber vs. Belinda Bencic

The Cinci draw is stupid. How does Timea get Madison, while Kiki gets Daniela? How does Caro get a bye while Vika plays a qualifier? There's just stupidity up and down the draw. I don't even want...

Re: Why hasnt Kerber done better in her career?

Yes. The serve is impossible, and gives her fans little hope.

Re: Chris Evert on Competing in Today's Game

I've never noticed Chris Evert failing to speak her mind. In the last two years Serena has consolidated her place as GOAT. Those who throw shade on Evert generally tend to be Serena-fans who...
