Re: Article: Monica Seles Interview with new photos ( 7/5/2009)

Strange seeing the video. She just looks shocked. She puts the gum in her mouth and almost chokes on it.

I think people forget how young Seles was when the stabbing happened. She was 19, an age...

Re: Monica Seles her new biography

I've read a bit of the book and she has had problems with stress, and dealing with that stress with food, since she was a child, which the stabbing and her fathers death seem to exacerbate. Still,...

Re: Peak Seles vs. Peak Hingis?

I've contributed very little to the world, and I don't pretend otherwise. I certainly don't think being able to hit a ball over a net competently is any sort of contribution, and important in any...

Re: Peak Seles vs. Peak Hingis?

It's no better, no worse. Both are games, meant to be nothing more than a bit of fun, and completely insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Re: Peak Seles vs. Peak Hingis?

[QUOTE=DA FOREHAND;14654321]right! She couldn't be bothered to get into top shape to benifit her career, but for dancing w/the stars... why not? And she was still the first to be booted. As Martina N...

Re: Peak Seles vs. Peak Hingis?

I think that is a rather odd interpretation of her career.

Re: Peak Seles vs. Peak Hingis?

That's going a bit overboard, but Hingis was a great player. I always take non-slam events with a pinch of salt, particuarly those with people like Hingis, but she would cause all top players trouble.

Re: Barbara Schett pregnant

A couple of years ago I think. They live up in Noosa, near Pat Rafter and Evonne Goolagong

Re: Peak Seles vs. Peak Hingis?

I think Seles was injured throughout the whole of 96. May be wrong though, but she certainly wasn't playing well that year.

As for the original topic, I would say Seles in 3. Hingis would always...

Re: Peak Steffi vs. Peak Sharapova

Graf, easily.

Bandabou, there is no point getting in to a discussion with LDV. He lives vicariously through Graf, and is extremely odd.

Re: Peak Seles vs. Peak Hingis?

Doesn't that tell you something? She clearly didn't give a shit, but was still competitive with the top players in their primes.

Re: It Happened Before! To Seles!

The Venus thing was worse. That was in a slam, while this was at a tournament that, although fun, wasn't really that important.

Re: Does Anyone Feel Henin Will Leave A Seles-esque Legacy Behind?

Fair point, but she was a teenage girl, and I think she was just scared.

Re: If Serena wins tonight, where will this put her on the all time greats list?

Yep, it's a chant. Good one.

I still think Seles' slam wins are more impressive than Serena's, but that's just me. I think a lot of Evonne Goolagong's slam wins are more impressive than Seles' etc

Re: If Serena wins tonight, where will this put her on the all time greats list?

Mary Pierce can beat anyone on any day, but she can also lose to anyone. Capriati is not a clay courter. In fact, she wasn't all that good on clay. God knows how she won a RG title.

The other...

Re: If Serena wins tonight, where will this put her on the all time greats list?

The only thing it speaks volumes about is how godawful womens tennis is now. Serena can only win slams now because there is no one around that is any good. At her best in 2002, she was unbelievable,...

Re: If Serena wins tonight, where will this put her on the all time greats list?

Weaker era. Serena had no great grass court specialists or clay court specialists to beat. Venus is great, but she is no way near a Nav or Graf on grass, and she didn't have to beat any great clay...

Re: If Serena wins tonight, where will this put her on the all time greats list?

I still think Seles would be higher. It's more impressive to beat Graf, Navratilova and Sanchez Vicario to win slams then it is to beat Venus Williams, Maria Sharopova and Jelena Jankovic.

Re: Does Anyone Feel Henin Will Leave A Seles-esque Legacy Behind?

No, I don't think so. She will have a legacy similar to Borg I think but not Seles, because the circumstances are too different.

I think that a lot of other players on the tour will have an...

Re: Doping...

I know, some people get so defensive, but look at the amount of drug abuse there has been in track and field, swimming, cycling, weight lifting etc, and those athletes are competing for sums of money...

Re: Doping...

Do people honestly believe tennis is a clean sport? Every sport has been tainted by drug cheats, and tennis is so physically demanding and has such huge amounts of money at stake that it is crazy to...
