Wimbledon - Grand Slam

Q1 Ekaterina Bychkova RUS vs. Alison Van Uytvanck BEL
Q1 Shelby Rogers USA vs. An-Sophie Mestach BEL

Van Uytvanck and Mestach are in the same part of the draw, they can meet in Q3. If they both get there of course ;) But they are in a part with a lot of clay specialists (Duque-Marino, Rezai, Pereira) and a British WC scrub (Carreras) so it's not totally impossible.

Well both have at least a winnable first round. Has Rogers ever played on grass? I thought Roland Garros was also her second tournament on red clay

I saw Alison's match today. She played beautiful tennis. Didn't get broken once and was clutch during the few times her service games came under threat. Served really well. Basically Alison played with a super mix of power and finesse. There are certainly quite a few players who can match Alison for power, or even surpass it, and there are also a few players on the tour who like Alison are blessed with great finesse skills. But there is hardly anyone on the tour who has both Alison's power and finesse. Of course Alison still isn't quite the finished article, but it is hard to watch her without feeling very optimistic about her future in this game.

I must say this match was definitely the highlight of my first day at Roehampton for 2013. And best of all were, of course, the dropshots. A few missed their targets, but most of them were just dazzingly brilliant. I've seen a lot of dropshots in my time, but I can think of only maybe 5 to 10 players in all my years watching tennis who have such a great knack at regularly producing dropshots that really do take one's breath away. This girl has a very special game.

Such a close match, Pereira had breakpoints for 6-5 in the second.
But third set was all An-Sophie :D

Good luck for the last round!!!

She must feel so sad. She served for the match and was two points away from the win.
But she can be proud about her tournament and she will learn about this kind of things. It just her first qualification on a grandslam.
