Both were still playing a pretty full schedule when they slid down the rankings. |

Re: Shahar Peer's low point this week...
her game has weak foundations. she loved the underdog position, but once the top power players toyed with her, and she had to cope with being a favorite against inspired opponents, as well as her fitness level dropping. she started messing around with too many coaches, getting irratated very quickly.
basicly, she started doubting. |

Re: Shahar Peer's low point this week...
Her career has had way too many ups and downs if you consider how fairly one-dimensional her game has always been.
Broke through in early 2006 playing an aggressive, bruising baseline grinding game which, though one-dimensional, was quite unlike anything we had seen before (and quite impressive from such a physically unassuming player). Was among the new crop of #10-25 range players that made the Tour very competitive back by mid 2007. But by early 2008, her FH had gone down the shitter and the rest of her game went with it. Slump went on for 2 years or so. Bounced back in 2010 with a more versatile game that included some use of touch shots (!) and a willingness to come to the net (!). Had many good wins, 2 MM titles, and played an epic match vs Venus at the USO, even though her lack of weapons meant that she continued to suffer brutal losses at the hands of players who combined both mobility and firepower. Was one match win away from the top 10 in the spring of 2011, got beaten by Julinha, and never quite seemed to recover from that setback. Has been pretty much irrelevant ever since. Anyway, if some of the nasty gossip coming out of the spats between members of the Israeli Fed Cup squad is true, Peer's commitment to the game right now is at least questionable. |
