Welcome to Pick-A-Winner (PAW), the Predictions game!


This week we are at the WTA Brasil Tennis Cup in Florianopolis, Brazil.
Playing PAW is simple. Over the course of the tournament choose any 13 matches in the main draw and post who you think will win them. Commitments for the tournament must be in by 21:00hrs CET on Saturday 23rd February 2013. Post commitments here. After this time, there will be an unlimited number of Wildcards available for late entries.

Some basic guidelines:
  • Never edit or delete your posts. If you want to change or cancel a pick, use a new post to state your new pick. This thread is being monitored for deleted posts.
  • Please try to check if a match has started before picking it. If a pick is late, it is invalid and you may replace it.
  • If a player withdraws before the match, the pick does not count and may be replaced. If a player retires during the match, the pick counts as if the match had been completed.
  • Please ensure that you number your picks. Posts should be in a format in which it is clear who you think will be the winner. For example: Player A over Player B and not Player A vs Player B or Player B loses to Player A.
  • Please always use the players’ real names and not their nicknames.

22 February
Thread opened. 19 players have already committed to this tournament. World #3 Sasja and #6 Chris 84 are so far the best ranked players in the first PAW tournament in Brazil in over a decade. 2013 champions Jose. (Hobart) and rbfilipe (Brisbane) as well as the former US Open champion sd330123 and multiple title winner Meelis are also amongst the entered players. Commitments close tomorrow at 21:00hrs CET.

23 February
Round 1 scoring points posted. World #35 *Yoav* is the last entered player to the event and pedropt is the first one to ask for a WC, becoming #3 seeded in Florianopolis. Please feel free to start picking.

24 February
Day 1 updated. Scoring points for the matches with qualifiers added. Only two matches played on Sunday. No upsets and only 4 wrong picks after Day 1.

25 February
Day 2 updated. Xepher leads after a perfect pawing of 4-0 with the all four big-pointers of the day. Good results overall - two thirds won picks against one third lost and an average of 8,6. Please check the Picks Summary and inform me in case of any mistakes.

26 February
Day 3 updated. Håkon and Hindrance. took the lead with 72 points each, Xepher moved down to third missing Haddad Maia's win over Hsu, but is only two points after the H's. After a good second day in Florianopolis, players pawed much worse in the third one and the overall ratio is already negative. There are several big-pointers in the second round too, so noone knows what can happen until the end of the tournament. Please check the Picks Summary and inform me in case of any mistakes.

27 February
Updated after Round 2. Three seeded players - #8 Xepher, #6 Håkon and #5 Hindrance. lead after the fourth day of PAW Florianopolis; it seems this trio will battle for the title until the end. Please check the Picks Summary and inform me in case of any mistakes.

28 February
Updated after Quarterfinals. Only a miracle can stop Håkon from winning the title - the other players still having a theoretical chance to win it are currently 23 or more points behind. Please check the Picks Summary and inform me in case of any mistakes.

1 March
Updated after Semifinals. ...and the miracle could happen. Håkon made a mistake, but none of the contenders took full advantage of it. However Sasja still has a chance for the title, so now we have the final Håkon vs Sasja. Please check the Picks Summary and inform me in case of any mistakes.

2 March
Final update. Sasja did not play for the title, prefering to have a secured second place. This means that Håkon is the champion of the first PAW tournament in Florianopolis. Sasja is second, Rik. is third in the final standings.
