More just painfully stupid (from a diehard VW nut).

No, impersonating accents is not racist.

You've never heard a white Jamaican speak? How about one of Asian descent?

Ok, you really don't hear much of her accent here, but I just wanted to post it. lol

This ad makes fun of an accent and is considered racist.

I would say that the VW ad makes fun of a stereotype which has become it's own entity apart from race. At the same time, the irony of the ad is derived from the implication that a stereotypical Jamaican (who is typically Black), has no place in a corporate setting. Bottom line: I couldn't tell you.

I've heard more than a few white Jamaican's speak like that, just as in some parts of the Southern US whites and blacks have similar pronunciations of words.

Even being pre-warned, no, I don't find this racially offensive.

I do cringe at the thought of what other stupid commercials are coming up Super Bowl Sunday...

I cringe that I didn't write any of them. All those $$ going to someone else. :sobbing:

Re: Is this ad racially offensive?

lots of real issues in the world, no need to manufacture more. mimicking the accent is fine even with piss poor execution. if i got offended every time someone offered a "whats up mon?" id be a continually mad ico. (btw most real Jamaicans don't say 'mon" unless imitating foreigners)

the idea that Yardies are somehow more mellow &/or laid back is belied by per capita murder statistics.

on the bright side ... luv Jimmy Cliff!

Black Raspberry? I don't recall that flavor.

How you cannot differentiate between the two commercials offends me deeply. Shame on you for posting this POS.

It's as racist as white bread... but it's about as great as white bread too (I hate white bread)

It's a scandal, this ad reminds me of the darkest hours of humanity

It's not the best ad of VW though...
