2013 ITF rule change: on-court coaching allowed

According to the new rules, the ITF has decided to give tournament organizers the possibility to introduce on-court coaching. So apparently is up to each tournament to go ahead with this or not

Case 3: Is a player allowed to receive on-court coaching during a match?
Decision: Sanctioning bodies may apply to the ITF to have on-court coaching allowed. In events where on-court coaching is allowed, designated coaches may enter the court and coach their players under procedures decided by the sanctioning body.

Given how few have travelling coaches, and those that do get coached all through matches anyway, it won't make a huge difference

Me either. It's sortof the equivalent of legalizing pot.

Although, I have to say, I did notice ONE warning last week at Port St. Lucie from the chair for coaching. Just one. That was surprising. I think it was Bencic, in her match with Muhammad, but I am not positive.

But the amount of chatter and hand gestures from coaches and fathers is pretty extreme, IMO. I was standing next to Abaza's coach in her match against Heidi El Tabakh, and the guy didn't shut up. Tomova's father is a motormouth, too. Whether it crosses the line or not, it's hard to say, but I'd rather have them have a hard and fast rule to do it on a changeover or between sets and then get penalized any other time rather than the way it is now.

Well, this is very interesting news!
It is very strange ITF leaves that up to tournament oraginzers to decide...

Has anybody seen on-court coaching on Womens ITF events so far?
