Shahar in Australia 2012

It's time for this new thread. 2012 could be a pivotal year for Shahar.

This might be a break-through year for her. She seems to bond well with her coach and she doesn't have too many points to defend except for Dubai, Indian-Wells and Washington. Wish her luck!

Peer's first round match in Brisbane is against the #2 seed Petkovic. Into the fire she goes.

I think Shahar needs to play much smaller tournaments to gain confidence (internationals).
Losing badly to Petkovic won't help, especially not after losing to Julia Glushko...

Loses to Petkovic. 7-6 1-6 6-3

A lot closer than I would have forecast.

Re: Shahar in Australia 2012

It was indeed close, but Shahar could've won it. She was 5-4 (with the break) in the first set, 6-5 (with the break) in the first set, 6-7 6-1 1-0 (has broken Petkovic early in the third set).
Good performancce nontheless - she also hit 4 aces!

Shahar def. Jones 7-6 (9-7) 6-4 .. it was a long day for her (8 hours with lots of rain ) but she made it threw..
Next round she will play Chakvetadze (today 243 in the world)
Thier record is 2-4 for the russian, but peer won the last match in 2009, in addition every time shahar was favorite in the ranking (2 matchs in 06) she lost so i hope she will improve the record!!

Re: Shahar in Australia 2012

I fell asleep before the match and had a dream she won 4-6, 1-5 RET. I was stunned to find out she won by retirement but I'm glad she took a set and was making things competitive. Hopefully she's up to the task that is Wickmayer.

Re: Shahar in Australia 2012

There's nothing special in making it to the semis with her draw so far.
I haven't had time to watch, but from what I've read currently there's not much of an improvement over last year's decline.
I'd be surprised if she beat Wickmayer.
