Re: 2011-2012 Rankings

Why is injured #2 singles Klaudia Malenovska of Long Beach St. ranked #109 in the singles pre-season while #1 singles Anais Dallara who played better than Malenovska all last season isn't ranked?

Anais Dallara is getting disrespected big time. :oh:

Re: 2011-2012 Rankings

Connie is definitely not coming back to Penn, so not sure why she is in the rankings. Look out for her at some tournaments in Turkey at the end of the month

Agreed that Dallara is the better player as of last year. Why some ranking coaches would vote the way they did would speak of an agenda to create line up controversy? Ironically, the CSUN and UCI coaches are voters for pre-season rankings. Amazing.... hmmmmm

I do know Malenovska is back on the court. Some hope she will play this fall by regionals and maybe even Fullerton. Pretty sure she only lost one match last year, always at # 2, before she was injured in the conference tournament. She is good.

But Dallara was on fire last year. So Dallara is not getting love from? Particularly since Dallara was regionally ranked at the end of last season and Malenovska was not.

Business as usual...

Lets play tennis.

case 1;

Lacey Smyth of Arizona beat Mary Anne Macfarlane at the West End Summer Circuit.

Smyth is ranked 105. Macfarlane is ranked 27.

case 2;

Lucia Batta of UNLV Stephanie Hoffpauir of USD.

They met on May 14, NCAA 1st rd.

1. Lucia Batta (UNLV) vs. #71 Stephanie Hoffpauir (USD)
6-7, 6-0, DNF

Batta is ranked 95, Hoffpauir 55.

Re: 2011-2012 Rankings

The pre-season rankings are meaningless because all they do is take last year's ranking and take out all the seniors and individuals who are not playing in the fall.

Meaningless... yes but no. These spin to January.. and then they become the baseline for the rest of they year even when the computer kicks in.

Sadly, as Fantic's notes point out... they are not just baseline last year less seniors. There are always regional agenda's built in.

ITA is not a healthy organization in many ways. Good old boys too often like this.

There are others is you match last year's rankings and regional rankings vs this mess that the full ITA Committee vomitted up.

Wait, isn't Jana Juricova like a million years old by now?? :confused: I could have sworn she was a senior, and of course last season I could have sworn she was playing before I got to college. Guess I was wrong.

In his defense, he was a pro baseball player before. I don't think age is a factor when you change sports.

The first 2012 rankings are up. Well, the team ones haven't been posted yet, but I assume they'll appear soon.

p.s. Anyone know why Lesniak isn't in?

fantic Jan 3rd, 2012 08:12 PM

Re: 2011-2012 Rankings

Did they mistake Burdette for Lesniak? I always thought Burdette as a dark horse in NCAA, but #1? When Burdette match was the easiest for Lesniak in NIIC, scorewise? Lesniak isn't even ranked :tape: Burdette is #1 in both singles and doubles, when did this happen last time? Lisa Raymond?
