I Played in the OutGames! (And won a medal!)
Hey friends!
This summer I'm in Vancouver and the international Outgames came and I got to play in them! Only the B division (there was Open, A, B, C and D divisions). I haven't played a tournament since high school so I didn't really no where to place myself, so I put myself in B, but I ended up winning the consolation tournament. It started out with like 32 players in the main draw. I lost my first match to a really talented guy, who ended up losing to the eventual champion. But I got to join the consolation draw and beat everyone in that to win that draw. Won the final 6-3 6-2 in my best playing in awhile (Masha-style  (fake!)). Anyway I just thought it was funny, playing against a bunch of international gay tennis players (though most were Canadian, don't think people travel too much for these things unless they're really talented). But yeah! I want to play more gay tournaments. It was a lot of older men, but they were definitely talented players. I got a medal that looks like a silver? But is obviously for consolation. Met some really nice guys too. You should all play Outgames or Gay Games or whatever the hell those things are, I feel like theres so many different ones. Next one is in Antwerp 2013. There were sadly only like 10 women competing though? Where are all our lesbs?? |

Look at your lifestyle, look at your choices! Anyways, glad you had fun. It always surprised to me how very few lesbians are out there compared to gay men. Not just in OutGames, but in general. |

And Adal, I think lesbians just don't make themselves as visible as gay men do. I don't think there's that much fewer of them though. IMO. And no actual hooking up occurred but plenty of tennis flirting. I had a boyfriend at the time, either way. |

Congrats dude!! :worship:
I wanted to play at the Gay USO in San Francisco a few months ago but I didn't feel like I was in good enough tennis shape to play an actual tournament. I'm gonna commit next year for sure and try and drag Mr.SerenaWilliams along with me so we can play doubles. :D |

I've never really understood why gay people have their own sports events.
Same goes for stuff like the Maccabiah Games, come to think of it. |
Re: I Played in the OutGames! (And won a medal!)
Do I have to be gay to play? Can I pretend? I miss winning :sobbing:

Winner of an event gets gold, runner up silver and normally both semi finalists bronze. They also give out a bronze to the winner of the consolation event. |

But seriously, go and join the B division tournaments if you think you're around 3.5-4.0 player, and you'll have an awesome time and maybe win a couple rounds. And meet some awesome, incredibly friendly gay men along the way. I loved the tournament because it was a way to hang out with other gay people who are all interested in something they are passionate about, rather than being surrounded by gay men say in a club or something. Will definitely join these tournaments when I can in the future. |
