Hi all.

This is to discuss (or predict) Aga's WTA rank. Tomorrow she should be the 20th female player in the world.

WTA rank depends on 17 best results in the last 52 weeks. Except 4 Grand Slam and obligatory Tier I which is Miami which will count if player qualifies.
(BTW - I could not confirm Miami at official page. I would appreciate If someone can post me the link.)

Total for today is 1257

Next week 5 points from Dubai will disappeared but it will NOT change Aga's points. If she earn more than 25 points it will increase her rank points.

Tomorrow I will describe situation what may happen after Doha.

hi & thanks, but i'd rather u made two tables: obligatory events & non-obligatory events (the same way it's made in the official ATP site when u wanna check rankings breakdown, this makes the situation more clear for someone who reads it)

+ you could have posted it in the statistics thread :angel:

I believe Aga can earn loads of points until Roland Garros + at RG. Actually there can't be worse so her rank shouldn't drop :p she has got only 100 points to defend so there is a chance to move up the ranking a lot before Wimby - this could give her a better seeding so she didnt have to face Top8 in 3rd Round ;)

Maybe, but stats contains much more information so it is hard to read. BTW could you send me the link to rankings break down? I cannot find it :(

Today Agnieszka has got the highest rank. She is the 20th.

The rank around Aga is:

17. Peer Shahar            1480

18. Szavay Agnes           1478

19. Bammer Sybille         1286

20. Radwańska Agnieszka    1257

21. Bondarenko Alona       1141

22. Mauresmo Amelie        1123

23. Schiavone Francesca    1091

Mauresmo will lost 215 points next week. Szavay will lost 10 points next week.
To get higher rank Agnieszka has to:
1. Earn 30 points more than Bammer
2. Earn 221 points more than Szavay
3. Earn 224 points more than Shahar
and of course do not allow Bondarenko, Mauresmo and Schiavone to reduce their distance.

During first round of Qatar T. Open most interesting matches are:

Radwańska - Morigami

Bammer - Nakamura
Szavay - Sugiyama
Shahar - Schiavone
Bondarenko - Daniilidou
Mauresmo - Lisicki

Welcome to the boared Pepe :)
I'm glad to see Aga as 20, she deserves this and I'm sure she'll go further than that.
She doesn't have a lot of points to defend in the next months (Exept Miami, where she reached the 4th round..) So She can even get a new best ranking.
Imo, she might pass Shahar who is not in the best shape and had great result in USA last year (I doun't know if I should be happy about it or sad..)

i think aga should climb to about #15 before she has a lot of points to defend. i can see her being top 10 by the end of the year :p

However Agnieszka's draw was really tough and she may loose distance after Doha. :(

The draw is though, but it's a tier 1 and she has a good chance to make it to the 3rd round which is very good

Doha update:

Shahar Peer - out in 3rd round

Agnes Szavay - out of the tournament in first round, but to get her it is required to be in the final.

Alona Bondarenko - does not participate (medical reasons).

Amelie Mauresmo - out of the tournament in second round.

Francesca Schiavone - out of the tournament in second round.

Sybille Bammer is out in QF and it means that Agnieszka will be 19th on Monday!

Schnyder, Golovin, Pietrowa, Safina, Szavay, Peer... all this girl are ahead of Aga in the rankings and suck so far this year or are injured. With little points to defend before RG, I wouldn't be surprised if Aga gets at least inside top16.

I would not be surprised too. However I have seen other QF where Maria Scharapova destroyed Caroline Wozniacki (btw she spoked with her father in Polish during break!).
So I afraid that Aga miss 1 point to be equal with Agnes Szavay. And her distance to 16th - Nadia Petrova is 315 ranking points. Of course if Aga will win with Maria ...

Good play in Dubai may also help. And we will see what will happen in Indian Wells and Miami.
