One of the biggest news of the months for France: young rising star Tatiana takes the 3rd place of the NR after her emotional semi final in Miami (fist time ever in a Tier 1 falling for injury in the 3rd set of a thrilled match against world n°4 Maria Sharapova). Tatiana has been up and down since the beginning of the year (only a semi final in Paris with a victory over Nadia Petrova and a 3 incredible 3 sets match against n°1 Kim Clijters). She was quite lucky in Miami with no big seeds to face until the Semi Final. Sadly she injured during that match and will be out of competition at least for 6 months. However she's one step to be back in the Top 20 (best at n°18).
In the other hand, Nathalie's situation has been really disturbing with a win/loss record at 1/5 since january. In Indian Wells and Miami, she fall to respectively n°77 Maret Ani and n°65 Jie Zheng. She really needs to regroup.

No change in the NR from n°5 to n°10 but we can notice some good progressions in the WR: Virginie Razzano (+5) with a 3rd round in Miami falling to n°36 Anna Chakvetadze; Stephanie Foretz (+11 and 9 places from her ever best ranking 3 years ago!) reaching consecutively the 2nd round in Indian Wells falling to n°25 Ai Sugyama and Miami loosing to n°34 Sofia Arvidsson; and Camille (+9) with a 2nd round in Indian Wells as a qualifer falling to n°32 Martina Hingis and a 2nd round of the qualies in Miami loosing to Stephanie Foretz.
In the Top 15, Aravane is up one place in the NR and the best progression in the WR (up 40 places!). She's now closed to overtake Severine Bremond and Stephanie Cohen Aloro who are slumping. Aravane has one short term goal: being able to enter directly the Roland Garros main draw. In march, she competed on the canarian challenger tour: runner up at Las Palmas $25K falling to n°190 Kirsten Flipkens. Winner at Telde $25K ousting Top seed/n°107 Conchita Martinez Granados-7 seed/n°177 Romina Oprandi and former n°19 Magui Serna. Runner up once again at Fuerteventura $25K falling to 4th seed/n°156 Elise Tamaela.
Mathilde is down one place in the NR but with no shame considering she'up 10 places in the WR. She stayed in Australia to play on the oceanic challenger tour with a 2nd round at Canberra $25K (loosing to n°362 Monique Adamczak) and a SF in Sydney $25K (falling to n°192 Young Jan Chan).
Last month new entry 18 y.o Mayline Andrieux keeps improving in the NR (+2) and WR (+29) competing on the ITF Tour: she reached the QF as a qualifer at Las Palmas $25K (upsetting 4th seed/n°184 Kristina Barrois, n°235 Olga Bratchikova before loosing to n°184 and eventual runner up Alla Kudryatseva). In St Petersburg she upsetted 6th seed/n°228 Margit Ruutel before falling to n°250 Nika Ozegovic.
Youlia is also up more than 20 places in the world ranking (QF as qualifer at Las Palmas $25K upsetting Top seed/n°149 Frederica Piedade before loosing in a 3 sets battle vs n°190 Kirsten Flipkens).
With Mayline and Youlia world ranking progressions...Alize in down 2 places with a stable WR. Alize is only 16 y.o and prefers to focus on the junior circuit in order to be seeded in Roland garros junior: good choice for her with a victory and final in 2 of the biggest south american junior tournement..she's now in the junior Top 20.

Nathalie is back at the 3rd place of the world ranking especially due to Tatiana's injury at Miami. However, for the 1rst time this year, Nathalie won 3 matches in a row at Charleston Tier I falling to 3rd seed/n°9 Patty Schnyder.
Emilie is up one place in the NR despite bad loss in early rounds against Vesnina and all the more Birnerova. She benefits from Virginie's slump who also fall in early rounds of the 2 tournements she has been playing. Virginie lost the points of her amazing Amelia Island 2005 where she reached the SF!
Good news from Camille who is back in the Top 100. Camille played on the ITF in April reaching the SF at Dinan $75K challenger retiring to rising russian n°196 Shvedova. Last week, at Cagnes s/mer $75K, she once again beat n°134 Aravane before losing to 7th seed/n°86 and eventual runner up Anastasiya Yakimova.
Stephanie overtakes Severine in the NR and is up 10 places in the WR. In order to get confidence, she decided to play $25K Biarritz challenger and as top seed, she logically won it. However, her confidence is not completely back falling to qualifer n°223 Guilia Gabba at Cagnes/mer $75K in the 1rst round.
From the n°12 to n°16, in the NR, there's no changes.
A new entry at n°17 in the NR and up 78 places in the WR -the best rise of the month: Aurelie Vedy. After finishing her study in the USA, Aurelie decided to concentrate on tennis and she starts to have good results. First at Athens $25K, as a qualifer she won the tournement (her best trophy) ousting 7th seed/n°221 Canepa and 2nd seed/n°102 Muller who won Cagnes s/mer last week! At Cagnes s/mer, Aurelie reached the QF beating n°98 Savchuk en route before losing to 5th seed/n°76 7/5 in the last set.
The young Alize is up 2 places in the NR and 53 in the WR this month and also breaking the Top 300! At Biarritz $25K, she made it to the 2nd round falling to 4th seed/n°159 Kirsten Flipkens 7/5 in the last set. After that, like Aurelie she won her 1rst $25K challenger as a qualifer! In the qualies she ousted 6th seed/n°264 Vrljic. In the main draw, she won against 2nd seed/n°98 Gajdosova and Top seed/n°77 Garbin!
At least 17 y.o Youlia is down 1 place in the NR but up 18 places in the WR after reaching the QF at Lafayette $50K as a qualifer. She beat 7th seed/n°149 Tansugarn en route before losing to 3rd seed/n°89 and eventual winner Fedak.
It seems that all of the girls around the n°250 in the world are really motivated to have good performance before Roland Garros...may be expecting a WC for Roland Garros.

Tatiana is back to the Top ad may be soon 2nd...Mary's slumping in the WR and has a lot of points to defend as runner up at the Year end Championship 2005 and should not be qualified this year. Tatiana reached her ever 1rst grand slam QF at the USO.
One of the most impressive rise is Severine...who's up 5 places in the NR and 83 spots in the WR. Before her breakthrough at Wimbledon, she was runner up at Marseille $50K challenger. At wimbledon she reached her ever 1rst QF as qualifer!! (victories over n°55 Yakimova, 8th seed/n°10 Schnyder, 31st seed/n°31 Dulko and 18th seed/n°21 Sugiyama before falling to 3rd seed/n°3 and eventual runner up Henin Hardenne. At Forest Hills Tier IV she made it to the QF ousting 2nd seed/n°39 Arvidsson before losing to n°54 Camerin. She reached the 2nd round at the USO and was once again QF at Bali Tier III falling to Top seed/n°5 Kuznetsova.
Aravane is another player who had a dreaming summer. At the French Open, she reached the 3rd rd as a qualifer (victory over 22nd seed/n°24 Sugiyama before losing to 16th seed/n°16 and eventual SF Vaidisova in 3 sets). At Palermo Tier IV, she was QF as qualifer beating n°69 Bychkova, 3rd seed/n°36 Krajiceck before falling to n°87 Vinci. At least, she proved her determination at the USO promising that she would do better than at Roland Garros and she did it reaching her ever 1rst 4th rd at the USO. She ousted 15th seed/n°16 Groenefeld, n°43 Safarova, 20th seed/n°24 Kirilenko before losing to 4th seed/n°5 Dementieva in 2 tight sets.
Young Yulia Fedossova is the biggest progression of the summer with an unexpected 2nd rd as qualifer at the USO (victories over 25th seed/n°28 Garrigues.
Alize also keeps rising and is still the higher ranked player in the world born in 1990. She broke the Top 200. She performed well on the ITF Circuit: SF at $25K Caserta (ousting 3rd seed/n°198 Zhalavova), winner at $25K Padova, and runner up at $25K Roma (victory over 2nd seed/n°146 Gallovits). At the French Open, she reached the 2nd rd beating n°77 Ruano Pascual before falling to n°72 Garbin.

The out of form players:
Nathalie hasn't been playing really well since her semi final at the Australian Open 2005. This summer she lost to lower ranked players than her such as Bammer (twice), Shaughnessy, Stosur in early rounds...
Virginie Razanno is also down more because she suffered from injury at the beginning of the summer. However, she seems to be back in form with a 4th rd at the USO ousting n°9 Hingis.
Stephanie Foretz also lost a lot points this summer with no convincing results on the tour.

Marion is the unpredicted 2nd best french player and will keep it at the year ending! She's up 9 spots in 2 months and is breaking her ranking record! Marion played with a lot of confidence during the last 2 months winning 2 titles (at Tokyo Tier III and Quebec Tier III). She also made the semi final at Seoul Tier IV. She's the 2nd two handed both sides player to reach the Top 20 after famous Monica Seles.

Severine is the 2nd in form player in the world Top 50 reaching her career highes tranking at n°38. She consecutively reached her 2 1rst semi final on the WTA Tour at Bangkok Tier III (upsetting 5th seed and back in form n°41 Daniilidou) and at Quebek Tier III.

Aravane continues her rise overtaking Nathalie and Emilie in the NR. She proves her self confidence reaching the goal she announced during Roland Garros...breaking the Top 50 by the end of the year. Right now, she's n°51 but oculd break the Top 50 as she commited in a couple of challengers by the end of the year. she reached the QF at Kolkata Tier III and moreover at Hasselt Tier III overpowering 4th seed/n°20 Groenefeld for the 3rd time this year!

Good progression for Camille who's also reaching her best ranking (n°77 in october) after playing her 2nd WTA semi final of her career at Tokyo Tier III.

Stephanie Foretz decided to focus on the ITF circuit to recover a better ranking. She's on the good way up 14 spots after winning 2 ITF (Biella $50K and St Raphael $50K ousting 8th seed/n°109 Beygelzimer and Top seed/n°81 Sucha en route).

Youlia is also playing with confidence reaching her 2nd career wta QF at Tokyo Tier III upsetting n°63 Ruano Pascual and n°83 Morigami. She was also runner up at St Raphael $50K challenger ousting 4th seed/n°98 Kanepi en route.

Olivia was a new entry 2 months ago. She keeps rising after winning her 1rst $25K challenger at Madrid.

The out of form:
Mary was back to competition in October falling 3 times in a row at the early rounds before reaching the 2nd rd at Linz when she dramatically injured. She will be out of compettion for at least 6 months.
Nathalie was n°13 at the beginning of the year...she's now ou tof the Top 50 with a disastrous 2006 win/loss stats quoting 17/28.
