Urgh! Come on!

There are only some 25K in the following weeks, but being 42 myself, I know, what she is talking about *lol*

Re: Greta Arn

What a beatdown.

Arn - Hercog 1-6, 2-6

I dunno how many unforced errors there were today from Greta's side, probably 40 or so, Hercog didnt really have to anything but wait. At some point, Hercog made 18 points in a row, that's almost a set.

But on a positive note, the ball striking looked pretty good today, Greta just didnt hit the court too often.

But anyway, great week, 32 points earned which will take her to about #460 in the rankings and will give her the option to enter those bigger tournaments now.

Good job.

Next stop 100K Saint Petersburg or 60K+ Saint Malo if I checked correctly.

Re: Greta Arn

Damn, that was some roller coaster ride.

Denying Bara all of her 6 set points in the first just to win it in the tiebreak, it looked like the Arn train ran out of steam in the 2nd, so I had no real expectations for the 3rd. And what a 3rd set it was....

SF: Arn def. Bara 7-6, 1-6, 6-0

All the weaknesses from yesterday were pretty much gone, backhand was ok, footwork excellent. Today it was the serve that didnt wanna klick. But nevertheless.... first Top200 win against an opponent who is currently in good form - might indicate where it's going in the end. Super happy. Really.

The final will be major vintage stuff.

Former #40 Arn vs former #35 Hercog.

They met once before at the 2010 Italian Open, Hercog easily in 2 sets.

Re: Greta Arn

2-6, 6-3, 6-1 against Schmiedlova

And even now, after hours, I have no clue, how she fucked her way thru that match. That was in vast parts abysmal and I say this as a fan. The UE on the backhand side were sometimes really really bad and the footwork is not there either.

Probably I shouldnt compare her to the Greta of 5 years ago, but those points really need some work being invested.

Semis against #197 Bara who played a pretty good match today against the #1 seed Khromacheva. I saw her play for the first time and I really have trouble understanding, that the Russian could moonball herself into the Top 100.

Re: Greta Arn

6-1, 6-2 against #476 Cabaj-Awad, the train is picking up steam.

#540 Schmiedlova next in QF.

But what a disgrace to let a national sports hero, who is on the same level as Dozi collect her balls.

Time to gain some 300 more spots in the rankings to leave this behind.

Top 600 with this win.

Re: Greta Arn

After that kinda unlucky end in Dunakeszi, the dame does not rest.

25K Balatonboglar

Qualifying

R1 Greta def. Stevanovic (SER) 6-0, 6-0
R2 Greta def. #441 [3] Juhaszova 6-3, 6-4

Main Draw again.

I think with despite her loss against Cadantu, she showed that she can bring on some Top200 material, so I hope to see her in qualies for some GS next year again.

And she is not wasting any time, she is on the entry list of 80k Biarritz and 100k Saint Petersburg next week.

Re: Greta Arn

She did it again *lol*

Being 1-5 down in the first and facing set point in the tie break,

Greta def. #280 Eikeri 7-6, 6-4

Good job, the Norwegian has won 2 25K on clay this year. So this is the level, she can definitely bring on after being back for only 7 weeks. More to come, I hope.

#610 in the live ranking already. And as I checked, 2nd oldest woman in the rankings after Schnyder.

Re: Greta Arn

I also found some nice article

Sonstige: Greta Arn liebt die Challenge - Sport - Schwarzwälder Bote

"Why does she do this to herself?"
"I love the challenge. When i saw the French Open Final Muguruza - Willams one year ago, I had the feeling that I need to try it again. Instead of sitting around in an office at age 38, I wanted to have this top feeling to win matches again. I am enjoying every moment."

4 years ago she started studying Interior Design in Switzerland and graduated by now. Another challenge. "I wanted that and it's sad that top athletes are always reduced to their sports only."
Now she is back and says "The feeling is better than ever before. I was a little worried that this feeling was elusive, but it wasnt. When you see Roger Federer winning Slams at 36, I am convinced, that I can compete. No matter how old you are, you just have to know what to do and how to deal with your body."

And Greta Arn knows that she does not only want to be an also-ran. "I have been #36 (?) in the world and that's where I wanna go back to. Though many think, that this is totally crazy."

She will give herself one year to evaluate if she will go on playing tennis or if she will change to an office. Arn had 8 weeks of preparation before returning to the tour. "Of course, this is not enough, but I feel that I am competitive" says Arn and grins.

She obviously is. The article is from 8 August.

Re: Greta Arn

Ah, the old Lady can't leave her old dirty habits.

QR3 Greta - [8] Udvardy 5-7, 6-4, 7-5

in 3h13, being already 2-4 down in the 2nd and 1-4 & 2-5 down in the 3rd. The 18y.o. will take some time to sort that out mentally, I suppose.

Main draw looks ok, she got one of the better sports left for the Q.

#280 Ulrikke Eikeri from Norway will be her guest.
