Steff_forever2 OMG, I really wanted Mary to end this injury-obstacles. I pray (to tennis-god(s)) she is able to play Hobart (?) and the AO.

K.F.C Bad luck, Mary!! Hope she will be recovered from her leg injury very soon to get prepared for the AusOpen!!!

But I am happy that it will be a Capriati vs. Dementieva final at the HK Ladies Challenge!!!

Mighty Light Poor Mary, I really hope it's nothing serious & that she's ready for the Aussie Open.

mn73 Don't be too downhearted Mary fans - it is not unusual to have niggling injuries when you have had a long lay-off. I remember when Jennifer Capriati returned to the tour in 1996 she was hampered by thigh and leg injuries for the first few months back.

Kart That is really sad

I was so happy for her to see her back on tour.

I hope that this injury is not to serious and that her motivation remains - she does look very disappointed in that photo.

Hope she gets better in time for Oz open.

Happy Guy INJURY I watched the delayed programme on TV just now, Mary stepped out onto the court looking sad, without her usual smile on her face throughout the match, and her left thigh was taped. She tried to finish all points quickly at first, and then she simply stood still and didn't chase down any balls. Elena won a lot of service return winners and a lot of aces. I think Mary is bothered by leg injury now...very sad

babsi it is mary's left leg as you can see in this pic

bubble That's very sad.....
I really hope that Mary will be fine for AO.

For Elena, this is great for her to be in the final again. I hope she will put up a good fight with Jen!

Go Elena !

FRANCE'S MARY PIERCE WITHDRAWS FROM SEMI-FINALS OF HONG KONG LADIES CHALLENGE

Mary Pierce from France waves to supporters after she withdraws from the game following her first set against Elena Dementieva from Russia at the semi-finals of the Hong Kong ladies challenge January 4, 2002. Pierce, who was awarded a wildcard last week for the upcoming Australian Open, withdrawed from the match after Dementieva won 6-1 in the first set. She has plummeted to 129 in the rankings following an inflammation of the lumbar spine which put her out of action last May.

I hope she is allright!!!
