Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Kind of an interesting parallel with Angelique Kerber in late 2014 and early 2015. Angelique did not finish well in 2014 and in 2015 through March lost several first round matches, including in Australia. She turned things around starting in Charleston in April, went on to win 4 tournaments and we know what she has done in 2016. Garbine is young and hopefully this is a rough patch that comes with relative immaturity from an age standpoint.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

The best thing about today's match is that she won in straights not really playing well. It looks like the spark she had at the end last year is gone. She's just spinning too many first serves for my liking, and not really using it as the big weapon it should be; also despite some flashy winners here and there she's still not really putting it all together. It all looks a bit messy. I am sure the foot injury and the high expectations have affected her, but from all the matches I've seen this year I get the feeling like she can go a bit off the rails at any moment. I hope she will relax a bit as the year goes on and will start to move and play more freely.

Good win vs Empress. It's nice to know that Garbine can be patient against an aggressive counterpuncher like JJ, something she couldnt do at that AO match vs Barbie. One thing concerns me: she always have at least one brain fart service game in every set. She needs to work on holding the momentum. I cant remember the last time she delivered a bagel set to her opponent...

Well that lethargic attitude got her bounced out of Australia. Not saying she has to be brimstone fire on every point, but she has get fired up and show some emotion at important junctions of a match. Look at Serena, Kerber and Azarenka. Vika in particular has toned down her brimstone behavior of a few years ago, but she unleashes when she needs to.

She's been like this since early last year. I actually like this version of her. When she doesnt show emotion, she plays smarter tennis more often than not

Garbi playing well below her best in her Fed Cup match vs Serbia. She's 4-1 up in the first with 2 BP for the young Serb.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

I doubt Garbine would match fix, but her attitude when things are not going her way is worrying.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Did anyone see or read the text of her post match press conference? I don't think her foot can explain a totally lackladaiscal attitude from the first point to the match. This was a GRAND SLAM chrissakes, not Baku. Her whole performance was disturbing and I wonder with all the talk of fixing, if the authorities aren't looking behind the scenes at this whole thing.
