Hoping for Vika/Garbi final. That would be amazing.

Oh god, I hope Garbine will win Rome or RG (or both ) just to shut up her haters

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

I am not surprised by the result, tbh, and there's no shame at all in losing to Petra on any kind of indoor court when she's playing well. It's more the way she collapsed after losing her serve at 0-1, totally messing up and squandering that 40-0 lead. Match ended right there. Plus when Petra saved that MP against Niculescu by that lucky netcord I thought immediately she was going to win the match and the whole tournament.

It's only the start of the clay season, and it is more about tuning up your game and peaking at the right time (RG), and at least she's playing decent tennis, but she's looking stagnated and I am not sure if she's going to take her game to a higher gear. She needs to add more nuances to her game to deal with big hitters that can expose her movement and defense. I am also missing the Vika-like CC and then DTL patterns of game she was using so well at the end of last year. She was setting up the rallies much better and that allowed to be much more efficient at finishing points off at the net.

I really do think these interviews and her launching an apps are steps back on her growing tennis career. She must restrain herself from too much pop-culture as it believe really distract her focus on court. Just let her tennis does the talk for her.

Definitely, I'm sure she didn't think a game plan through. Though Petra played so well and I'm actually pleased (as a Kvitova fan as well )

Despite that dreadful final set, there are still lots of positives (i.e. things to learn from ) , in my opinion. First, she knows that she can't beat an in-form Petra (or any big hitter) on a faster surface with flat strokes down the centre- simply into her strike zone. Second, she knows that her net game sucks (play doubles!) Third, she knows that her movement and defending, along with her mindset, has to be better. I'm sure she'll also probably prefer outdoor clay.

I was really worried during the offseason that she was getting distracted, but I'm not too worried. Garbiñe knows that she can't flop too badly, or else she'll follow the Genie path (funny they are, or were, both on IMG)

She doesn't have much to defend in Madrid or Rome, so I hope she can go far in those tournaments in case she doesn't quite defend her RG or Wimby points. Well, I mean, she still has that Mallorca slam to play before Wimbledon

Garbi def. Babos 62 62

It was a solid and pretty confident performance from Garbine. Good to see that she is getting her form back, right in time for the clay court season.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

She knows that she's the next big girl. I just hope she starts to develop mental fortitude à la Pova, Serena and Vika, because at this point it's all about mental.

Now let's hope she wont take another step back (by depending too much on her coach and start to serve like some hopeless pusher). Stuttgart, here we come

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Encouraging despite the defeat. Garbine managed to hang with Vika and even when down in the second set she continued to fight, something we have not seen in a long time.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

I am still feeling a bit sad because of Garbi's defeat, but in the end it was good to see that she was able to stay on par with Azarenka for the whole match. I did not really expect that before the match tbh. She seems to be getting her game back at the moment, and I start to believe that she will be back at 100% at the French Open.

Garbi is potentially a permanent TOP 3 player and a major contender at all the slams. Yesterday’s match revealed that one more time.

So Garbine's next tournament is Suttgart, right? That starts 18th April. Fed Cup Spain vs Italy is on the 16-17th. Does anyone know if Garbine is confirmed for the play-offs?

Not to mention there is a HUGE gap in terms of mental strength Pova is such a beast in that aspect. Garbine on the other hand, gets down on herself way too often which certainly affects her consistency. That certainly needs to go.
