Re: Cheering Eleni Daniilidou in 2014!!!!

Lost singles QR1 in WTA Bad Gastein to (#99) Smitkova
But she reached the doubles SF with Barrois, before losing to eventual champs the Pliskova twins

This week she played a 25K in Germany and it didn't go so well
She lost R1 to (6) Vankova (#245) 2-6 6-7(3)
She's not playing doubles there

Smitkova, Plsikova twins, Vankova...all Czech players beating Eleni lately

Re: Cheering Eleni Daniilidou in 2014!!!!

Played two 50Ks in Japan

The first one was bad in singles, as she lost in the first round in straight sets to the #473 player in the world
She sort of made up for it by making the doubles final

The second one she only played singles. She beat Aoyama (#279) in R1 before losing to top seed and eventual finalist Hozumi (#178) in three sets

Then she played doubles only at WTA Nurnberg with Barrois and lost in the QF to (1) Huber/Raymond 2-6 4-6

She played really well in the 75K Nottingham, winning three matches to qualify and then another two in the main draw, all five matches against decent opponents. She was a quarter finalist there in both singles and doubles

Then in WTA Birmingham she qualified and lost to Zhang in R1 5/7 4/6, and now Zhang is in the SF there...

Re: Cheering Eleni Daniilidou in 2014!!!!

2-6 2-6
It's a shame that she drew a seed when the draw was ridiculously weak in the first place

Still, she hit 7 DFs in 8 service games. Obviously we've seen worse from her over the years, but she needs to serve better.

She was also 2/6 on break points while Diyas was 6/6...

Oh well. Better luck in doubles!

Re: Cheering Eleni Daniilidou in 2014!!!!

Not much going on with her lately, she only played a 50K in France and lost QR1 in three sets to Tinjic (who eventually qualified), and Eleni played doubles there and reached the final with Barrois

Re: Cheering Eleni Daniilidou in 2014!!!!

6-4 6-3
Then lost R2 1-6 1-6 to (7) Marcinkevica
I mean Marcinkevica is ranked higher (currently at her career-high) and is good indoors, but this is a bad scoreline

She has, however, tweeted that she hopes to return to Midland next year so hopefully this season won't be her last

Re: Cheering Eleni Daniilidou in 2014!!!!

Only singles at 25K Nottingham:
(1)Ekaterina Bychkova (RUS) v Lena-Marie Hofmann (GER)
(Q)Quirine Lemoine (NED) v (Q)Chantal Skamlova (SVK)
Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) v (Q)Manisha Foster (GBR)
(7)Diana Marcinkevica (LAT) v (Q)Katy Dunne (GBR)

She should win R1, but that Foster girl gives me nightmares from when she came out of nowhere to beat Papamichail two years ago

Re: Cheering Eleni Daniilidou in 2014!!!!

1-6 3-6 against Govortsova/Oprandi in QF
Watson won the singles (without dropping a set) and doubles titles so Eleni's singles loss doesn't look that bad

Re: Cheering Eleni Daniilidou in 2014!!!!

Lost to Watson 1-6 3-6 in 100K Midland
This loss was expected as Watson is in good form, but still she could've had a better shot if she didn't hit so many DFs

She's playing doubles with Krunic and they got a really tough R1 draw, Hradecka/Siniakova. Hradecka is a great doubles player who has won slams and mixed slams and an Olympic silver medal. Even last year she won the US Open doubles and I think RG mixed doubles. She has no business in doubles at a challenger. Siniakova is one of the rising stars of the tour and she won three junior doubles slams last year!

However, Eleni and Krunic won 2-6 6-4 10-5

Re: Cheering Eleni Daniilidou in 2014!!!!

Lost Pattaya QR1 vs. (2) Krunic (#153) 4-6 3-6
Hard to win when you hit 10 DF...
Doubles with Krunic here, they play a Thai pair in the first round, they should at least win that one...
