Re: Donna Vekic - Volume 2

That's what happens when you go partying in St Petersburg with your BF instead of preparing for an event. She is such a trainwreck ffs.

^ Yeah, she called her coach, but burst into tears before he got there. She was saying things, but I couldn't pick up what, he was asking if she's got trouble breathing or if her legs feel heavy, and was then basically just trying to calm her down, saying it's not worth crying about cause it's just one match, and that it's not surprising what she's feeling cause she didn't have much time to adapt to conditions.

Now the trainer is on court.

Larsson out - but the new potential R2 for Donna is Buyukakcay.

Re: Donna Vekic - Volume 2

Ranking will be the least of Donna's worries if she allows herself these sorts of performances a bit more often.

Her opponent from today has a pretty good serve, but in all other aspects, Donna should be able to handle her. That was evident countless times even today, when Donna only needed to put 3-4 solid shots into the court left-right to force NV into an error. But she forgot to cut down on her own errors by a few notches today.

Anyhow, hopefully she can show something better than this in Tashkent.

Vikhlyantseva has had a middling sort of year but in last two months she's suddenly picking up tournaments. She absolutely tore through the draw this week and jumps 50 ranking spots. I would have expected Donna to offer more resistance though.

Donna needs to keep winning or Vikhlyantseva might overtake her in short order. She could drop about 30 places if she doesn't win a few in Tashkent.

Re: Donna Vekic - Volume 2

Vikhlyantseva is a very good player when on. It's just refreshing that for once Donna actually beat the players in front of her. Yes this draw was ridiculously easy, but Donna always seems to get good draws and fuck them up. She took a WC into Tashkent but her draw is not so good there, first Kozlova then Larsson. What will be her ranking next week with a R1/2 loss?

Donna looking like a total lost cause out there in the final - 1:6, 0:3 so far against world #234.

Re: Donna Vekic - Volume 2

Quite ironic she's playing in the same city as her man is. At least they won't be far away from each other .

Meh, match could go either way.

Indeed, Sabalenka's ranking is deceiving IMO and if she can play like in the last two sets today on a more regular basis, I can definately see her reach top 70 at least. The question is, where is her "normal", cause this is the first time I saw her. She really made Donna work for the win, and there was much more to it in the third set than the score would suggest.

Donna herself didn't play very good today as well, so winning such a match must feel good, especially ahead of the final.

She is a big favorite tomorrow I'd say and should really make the most of this chance.
