Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

I think Coco beat Garbi a couple of times in 2014 in very tight matches. Garbiñe won in Cinci last year, but both were so dreadful it's not much of an indication. I was impressed with Coco's hitting today. If she plays like that she's going to be very hard to beat. I hope Garbi will be patient and won't try to outhit/overpower her, as she wrongly does against Pleasekova. If she tries to play first strike tennis she'll probably lose. She's gotta be aggressive but she has to grind too and be patient, target Coco'c BH non stop and wait for UEs. Good serving will be key.

Garbs has matured a lot since their last meeting and Venus got older and heavier. She does indeed go deep in almost all tournaments but it makes a toll in the QF and SF for her. Think that rested Garbs can take advantage of that, especially in this form, and especially with such full motivation for revenge, she already did it vs. Sevastova, now Vandeweghe to follow.

But we cant tell the future, I only say I was good at predicting till now, hope it gets that way further!

But Kerber would indeed be better suited in QF for Garbine than in-form Coco. That I am quite certain after seeing the performances from both today.

I personally never count Venus out but tbh I can easily see her going out against Pavs.
She was mostly hitting the ball very well in her match with Sveta and if she brings this level + consistancy in the QF...
But Venus has the mental edge, that's for sure.

I see the same final as in RG Garbi - Serena. They both gonna have 3 finals in 2 years at 3 different slams. No wonder with such gutsy game, congrats to both!

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

I agree. I honestly think she's now the favourite to make the final.
Coco is playing good, yeah. But Kerber was simply dreadful today (the whole tournament actually) so it was not that difficult to expose her.
Garbi has much better defense than Coco and she can also move her opponents around the court very well when in form.

One match at a time but I admit, I'll be disappointed if she doesn't make the SF.

Does anyone else feel like everything is coming together for Garbi here, her game , the draw. I am not gonna predict anything taking it one at the time but there is a chance for something big here .

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

I do like Garbi grinding a bit and learning to suffer on court; today she went for balls that months ago would not even try to reach... and won some of the points... I am thinking in the awesome run to hit a lob and pass Sorana for example.

The possibility of getting more diversity in her tennis is great as long as she does not collapse and gets obsessed with it; it is taking time but seems to start giving results.

I honestly cannot see Garbi in the final, I think Kerber will be too much for her; let's remember she's playing slightly injured. And then Venus, her nemesis, might be waiting for her...

But on today match, nothing to bad to say

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

It's quite shocking to compare the player we saw tonight versus the one in Brisbane and the first two rounds of the tournament. I'm not about to make any lofty predictions about the QF or beyond, but it's a relief to see more aggression (albeit mostly controlled) creeping back into her game.

And I was one of those who thought she was going to retire in the first round and/or quit before the second.

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

Yeah i hate seeing her grind because it is completely against her strengths. Was nice to see he being more aggressive today and being ruthless. That is Garbine at her best

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

GOATbine on fire today. She was so relentless, I started to feel sorry for poor Sorana!

Nothing to criticize really, everything spot on, from gamewise, attitudewise and perfect concentration. Garbine has the mind of the champion, we all know once she gets so deep in tournaments she always goes for wins, so final is in sight. Kerber will be in grave danger should she not raise her game very very substantially.

She progressed along the tournament. Hopefully the trend will continue till the end. Anyway count yourself lucky not witnessing her endless grinding at Brisbane

Re: Garbiñe Muguruza

She reached her first AO QF! First of many to come I hope
Her performance was clinical. Granted it was the less streakier version of Cirstea, but Garbine simply did not give her any chance to play her game. FH was sublime, BH was sublime, serving was sublime, ROS was sublime, so happy.

We'll see who will be her opponent in the QF. Both Angie and Coco will be dangerous with different game play. Garbine and Sumyk must layout their plan carefully to ensure a SF appearance. I'm still in the one match at a time mode. But really a beautiful result to end my weekend

She'll be playing the last time slot at the MCA vs Cirstea
