I was wondering why the streaming site I use randomly was showing Annika Beck... was hoping I could find a stream for Donna since she plays before her but Donna wasn't listed as an upcoming option...

Larsson is a tough cookie on clay. Can never really tell. Hopefully the clay in Rabat isn't like the clay in Bastad, or else Larsson is going to peak

Re: Donna Vekic - Volume 2

Oh Donna, this one was there for the taking...

Flipkens isn't nearly as dangerous on clay, and it showed. She tried to defend most of the time and mix as much as possible, but the slow conditions undermine the element of surprise that she likes to utilise in her game.

Not that Donna was that bad at all, in fact, there were even elements to her game which we're not used to seeing so much from her, like volleys, snappy short forehand crosses from the middle of the court, lobs (that actually land in), even her movement was decent, especially towards the net, which was needed for all those times Flipkens pulled a dropper. She was also holding her own in several long rallies, even winning some of them - all good signs.

But it was all to no avail, cause Donna was a bit too sloppy at times and quite tense throughout the match. She needs to cope better with nerves and learn to relax a bit better somehow, cause at some instances she was far more tense than the moment would require. And errors, those sloppy, no-reason errors, missing the court by 15 inches or shooting the net when she had more than enough time and wasn't even under serious pressure. Had she made just 10% fewer UE's, I believe she would've won the match, not just one set. The chance was there, no doubt.

Add to it all, a bit too much risk when there's no real need for it, and you get a recipe for disaster. Countless times I found myself gasping at her winners, thinking she must've missed it, and all because she was going for the lines when even a much safer ball would do the trick.

Overall not a terrible performance, but definately a missed opportunity. Hope it doesn't come back to haunt her in regards to the Olympics. Cause there won't be many more chances like this in the next few weeks.

Better luck next week.
