Kris wins a rare 3-set match while leading Defeats Sara 63 36 64! Now provisionally back in the Top 90. Will have to reach the semis to best her career high ranking of #83.

Next up #5 Kurumi Nara. Kris is 0-1 against her.

Nice win over Lucie in straight sets! Karo back on track. Kristyna is playing in Tashkent, going up against Sara Sorribes Tormo. No previous meetings. Sara has 6 ITF clay court titles and 1 HC. Saw some highlights and she reminds me of Errani, very loopy, same grunt and grinds a lot. Kris has to dictate and she better not get into long rallies, it could be a 3-set shitfest in favor of Sara. C'mon Kris!!!

Krys plays Seoul.

A tantalizing battle of blondes looms is a remote possibility in the semis.

A bittersweet win for Kris but i'll take it. She better continue to win matches this fall. She has literally nothing to defend.

Re: Pliskova Twins Cheering Thread

BTW, Kris won Dalian title, 7-5 4-6 2-5 ret. against Eguchi

this is not very happy way to win something...

Misa Eguchi won 14 consecutive points from 2-2 to 5-2 30-0
Kris collapsed completely as well as she did many times
but Misa fell very badly after winning that point
(indeed, that happened out of video cam, Misa retrieved the balls so much throughout this match)
Misa continued the match and had 1 championship point, but lost it with dropshot error
next point she fell badly again and couldn't continue to play

I totally agree to many fans here
I really gutted for Kaja, and saw many positives despite this loss

She believes she can do it and will have many opportunities from now on. I'm not worried that she won't have another chance, she will win one sooner or later. Kristyna is the one that worries me, she's been stuck for 2 years in the 100's, let's hope she joins Karolina next year and becomes a solid top 60 player at least.
I agree. I was really hoping she would come out of the blocks firing but it wasn't to be.... First time nerves I guess.

I was also surprised how average her serve was today. I thought she would bring that for sure.

I thought wrong a couple of different ways! And that's why I never bet money on these matches!!!

I feel really bad for her. But at least she has finally arrived on the big stage.
You could really tell it was her first major final. Not to take anything from Angie, but Pliskie was definitely tight at the start of the first and the end of the third. You could just tell Angie had better control of her nerves and of the occasion. Karolina may look calm on the outside, but you can sometimes tell she's a raging storm of emotions internally.

Overall, though, this tournament and this month was a huge step forward for her. Much as we would have enjoyed it, given her past it was a big ask to expect her to win her maiden major final. I hope she gets another shot soon.

Re: Pliskova Twins Cheering Thread

Despite the loss, her level from the second set to the middle of the third may be the best I've ever seen from Kaja. It's just a shame she couldn't close it out.

Kaja was even holding her own in the longer rallies, but I think she was playing too many of those that wore her out by the end. This was in large part because she stopped hitting down-the-line so the rallies would become prolonged cross-court ones.

She said she didn't have the plan of going to net before the final, but it was the perfect tactic against someone like Kerber. She can't play so many longer rallies against someone like her and it's a high-percentage way of shortening the points.

I feel better about her game than ever and I really hope Kaja can continue on this level. Her movement is improving gradually and the consistency of her serve can get even better. And I hope she works on going to net more like she did today.

If the last few weeks are any indication, Kaja will have more of these opportunities in the future.
