Re: Garbiņe Muguruza

She's needed to change coaches for over a year now and hasn't. I'm not convinced this loss is going to be the catalyst that does it. Maybe if she has an awful run thru the USO, but for the time being I don't see a split, much as I would like to.

Re: Garbiņe Muguruza

She must change sth now. I mean getting bageled by Strycova out of all ppl!

I just hope she tanked this, and this is not a real world. Seriously. Hope she does well at Wimbly, she desperately needs points.

I cant recall when was the last time she had such terrible loss. Everything went bad today, DFing, overheads, net play, no will, Zombiņe everything. It is not even that Strycova was that good either.

So bad that she got bagelled and breadsticked by Barbie.
Is it safe to say now that Mugu-Sumyk partnership's death count now has started?

Re: Garbiņe Muguruza

I know I said I only expected a QF, but GURL you really know how to test my patience there. A very good chance to reach her first final since RG last year by that first set showing and she blew it by her inability to hold the momentum. Shame on you girl, shame on you

Not the way I want it, but SF it is
I hope she'll make it to the final against Petra

Yeah, I partially agree. She's pretty fast for a tall girl, but she is still a tall girl. She's not going to move as easily as a Halep or a Gavrilova, for example. On the other hand, her height is a big advantage in other ways (serve, net coverage etc).

If you watch Garbine long enough, you might have noticed how she plays well placed and penetrating balls from her backhand, and that one of the main reasons is she hits it quite early and prepared in crouching low positions. I do think if she continues pretty much servebotting like lately with improved net game she certainly can beat Coco, but she will have to have good spirit as well since 1 TB in a match will be certain. I also wish Coco could be a little bit headcase today and make it easier for our Garbi girl!

Re: Garbiņe Muguruza

I agree with SmilingKnight. She tends to struggle against big hitters. Grass tends to compound the issue as opposed to clay, which makes it less of a problem. Mourataglou did a video during RG analyzing Mugu's forehand issues. The extreme Western grip requires perfect timing and positioning, and it's really a lot harder to get in that position and to have time for it on grass.

While I don't think Coco is unbeatable, if she's having an "on" day, I don't see Garbiņe beating her either. The 1-2 combo of big serve/big groundies tends to trouble her (see also Pliskova).

Re: Garbiņe Muguruza

Judging by their previous two meetings, this matchup is about whether or not Coco can keep it together. I don't think that Garbiņe has the kind of game to stop a big hitter on a good day.

Re: Garbiņe Muguruza

Yeah I agree, she quite seems to learn from her losses, except Pliskova!

I couldnt watch the game today, but was pleased to see 1st set go such easy on scoreboard, I told you I was convinced Riske will be easier job for her. Coco is pretty dangerous, expect long sets with lots of servebotting on both sides. SF would be great, although I think this is hers for taking should she somehow get past Coco.

She needs those points desperately, and she defends none here, all free points. Eastbourne too.

Did anyone watch doubles to tell me anything? Honestly I didnt hope even in wetest dreams Ciburuza would be able to do anything serious vs such experienced double like Barty/Dellacqua!

Re: Garbiņe Muguruza

5th QF this season ? She's getting more consistent without a doubt. The problem is that several of those wins have come at a very hard physical price, hence the retirements, as her matches are longer due to the more conservative approach in her game.

I liked what I saw today, so much better than her first match, regardless of the different styles of her opponents, and Riske was playing rather well. As usual, when Garbi goes for her shots and has a more aggressive mindset that's when she plays better. It's also great to see her serving bombs and using her first serve as a weapon.

Re: Garbiņe Muguruza

I saw the second set. Riske wasn't playing bad, and she totally earned those saved MPs.

Mugu was determined not to let it go to three, and that was something you could see in her demeanor. Coco is up next. I'm less optimistic about that one seeing as how Coco played against Konta, but Garbiņe is usually good at bringing it to rematches against players she previously lost to.

And she did not push much to my liking, so i'll take it as a positive note.
Next is either Konta or Coco. Muguruza normally hates to lose consecutively against non-tier 1 players, so I hope she brings all her guns in her QF match.

I agree with this. Kulichkova was literally bashing as hard as she could, so all Garbiņe could / had to do was be the less erratic player. Reading signs of Pushuruza into these stats is a mistake.
