Re: Vera Zvonareva rise to the top cheering thread, Vol 3

Vera is on the qualifying list of next week's Poitiers 100K, but as a MDO. Likely there won't be so many withdrawls from MD, she will get in directly, so probably she will not play there either.

Edit: She is also not on the list there anymore, she withdrew yesterday.

I like this schedule. Vera is 190 in 2017 points and needs some more during this part of the year
Patty Schnyder is 155. Zhuk is 175. Tough to play big events with these rankings.
This is important to get moving forward to the top 100

Officially she is not cofirmed, however this interview from a couple of days ago on the tournaments website, makes clear she intends to play:

Vera Zvonareva: “Kremlin Cup became a start in senior tour for me”
Ex-world number 2, 4-time Grand Slam champion in doubles and mixed doubles Vera Zvonareva started her training on courts of «Olympic Stadium». She told about success in that season and shared some memories about her first Moscow tournament in her interview to correspondent of press-service.

Vera, in this season you done well: win in Egypt, was a runner-up in China, semi-finals in Tashkent. How can you evaluate your game? Have you reached your goals?

This season is hard to evaluate: at the beginning of year I didn’t have serious tournaments' schedule: I just started to practice a little bit and wanted to recover after childbirth – so I had plans only to play couple of exhibition matches. But that summer I started to practice more and participated in some tournaments. I love tennis, love competitions, so I decided to continue and performe well at higher level tournaments. I am satisfied with reaching that heights on WTA tournaments – I didn’t expect that. When I started practicing more seriously, I realized, thre are so much work I have to do in order to play professionally, and how hard it will be. So, firstly I had no plans to perform on that tournaments, and I could say the season went well as I didn't even plan to play.

The organizers of the tournament decided to put new courts, similar to Grand Slam ones. Have you already practiced on them? In your opinion was it a right decision?

I was only practicng on practice courts. Main courts are not ready yet, so it’s hard to tell. I think practice courts have different base, and game courts will be slightly different. But anyway it's a good decision – if all courts in the whole world will be similar – it will help tennis player to adapt faster and show their best performance. I also like a new color – I like violet, because it reminds me the WTA Finals, where I participated couple of times. I think organizers really are working hard and doing their job very well.

Is it yours 10th VTB Kremlin Cup tournament? What did it mean for you? How do you feel performing at Olympic Stadium?

Of course, VTB Kremlin Cup is special tournament for me: when I was very a young tennis player, finishing to play junior tournaments, I was handed a wild card. I passed first round and even met with Anna Kournikova, who had already had high ranking that time. It was a great experience for me and mainly my start in senior tour. For me performing in Moscow is always a great honor and great responsibility, so I always wait that tournament, and VTB Kremlin Cup 2017 is not an exception. Both in the beginning of the year and this summer I thought that I will not be able to perform. So, if I could participate in tournament and show my best in Moscow, it is such a great pleasure for me.
I guess we have to wait until the MD is announced later today if she plays, two WC's have gone to Sharapova and Pervushina.

She is not QD, which has already started

Why did Vera retire in SF vs K-Bond ?
