Re: Anna Smith Thread

Four match losing streak for Anna Nicole since reaching the Eastbourne semi. Their last two losses have both been to Xenia Knoll, 5-10 in the MTB.

Re: Anna Smith Thread

Anna and Nicole quietly makes it through to the semi-finals of the Eastbourne premier (thanks to a retirement)

Got absolutely GOAT opposition in the semi and any potental final.

Re: Anna Smith Thread

Nice win! I can't remember what happened last year, but looks like Anna is due to have a lot of points knocked of. At least this will cushion the blow a bit.

That was really tough. They put up a good fight though. They are both really hard workers on court. I think that is evidenced by their many many many ITF titles. As a team though, they just didn't have that quality to stand up against the very best doubles team. Although I don't think Kops-Jones & Spears were much better than them and thought they would have similar achievements as a pair.

I've watched them play whenever I got an opportunity. Joss/Anna were strongest with Joss at the net and Anna at the back of the court. Joss can hit some deadly volleys and overheads. Joss' serve is big but also a bit inconsistent. Anna's serve is not big but more consistent and also she's deceptively powerful from the back of the court. Her groundstrokes are much more solid than Joss'. Joss tends to hit very flat and from the backhand side she mainly slices. Also Anna's volleys are good too(but she's quite easy to lob, a lot easier than Joss anyway). I would say Anna is the better all round doubles player, but Joss is very good at the net.

I think it was possible that the partnership was getting a bit stale. That loss in the Nottingham WTA final must have been crushing, there were a matter of points from the title...They had a great run together and hopefully they remain good friends.

I think so, multiple times, too. Tara and Conny were runners up in Rio last year. Naomi and Hev were runners up in Hong Kong together.

I'm also thinking of Jamie Murray and John Peers - they did better together than either had before, and both have done even better with new partners.

I think many of us saw it the otehr ay round, but it may have been due to Joss's height, physical build and reach. But she seems to ahve sparked well with Laura Robson so it's possibly working out for both.

The AELTC often leave some of the doubles WCs unassigned, but a British winner on the main tour should be a no-brainer.

They have up to 7 to use, if they see fit.
