Haven't been able to watch the final yet but the result is about what I was expecting. Her end to this season has been very promising that's for sure and gives us all hope for 2014 (maybe not Australia but beyond that). Enjoy the off season Sammy

Re: Sammy's Asian Swing 2013

So many emotions in only a few weeks! A micro season turned into a 2010 feeling.
For the in-between season there are topics to be discussed:
-The F€&@%%^ coaching file (I know, I know...);
-The turbo-statistics over the very few weeks since Carlsbad —I'm already terrorized by the mega input turned into thread from Anncetcl!;
-The new relationship with fans and it's extension on her FB site (& vice-versa).
Am I missing a point?

Yep, agree 100%

It makes her serve less vulnerable to pressure, and can help when her serve is not 100%, like sets 2 and 3 today.
Yeah her return of serve stats were phenomenal during her USO11 title run in 2011. Hopefully she sorts out the coaching situation pronto / or at the very least get some kind of temporary structure in (like a travelling hitting partner) and can get a decent preseason in.

But hey, given the situation she was in after Stanford it is a fucking miracle that she is in the Top 20 let alone winning two titles from four finals, so big cheers to her for a stellar finish to the year. Let's hope for a big start to 2014 and a speedy return to the Top 10.

As always it was a pleasure cheering with you guys. :hugs:

The feeling is mutual. Sleep well

I agree with you guys, despite this loss it was a very good ending to the year for Sammy. She should take quite a lot of confidence into the new season, and hopefully score some good wins at home for a change.

Not a problem.

And I agree - despite the result of the last two singles finals, Sam can hold her head high and hopefully kick off the 2014 season in style.

Forehand winner gives Halep the championship.

Re: Sammy's Asian Swing 2013

6-2, 2-6, 2-6.

Well, I am slightly disappointed in Sam, to be honest. She kept Simona mute for a set and a half, but poor (and predictable) serving combined with less angle and weight of shot on the groundstrokes after that period gave Halep the confidence she needed to win. Very easily avoided by Sam, and the start of the 3rd was good, but - unlike Pavy - Halep hung with her enough in the 3rd to see her falter, and then pounced.

But I guess there is no shame in losing to Halep, and I am glad she finished the season the way she did.

Re: Sammy's Asian Swing 2013

Damn, didn't expect Sam to capitulate like that.

In her defense I think that, other than it helped her serve somewhat, this is a really bad surface for Sam's game. She has had zero rhythm in her groundgame in any of her matches, she's pretty much had to scrap it out. Against most opponents she's met that was possible, but Ana and Simona are too good for that

Re: Sammy's Asian Swing 2013

GSM Halep. Simone lost just 3 points on her serve in the third set. Oh Sam you really need to learn to boss your opponents from start to finish especially when you dictate so well in the beginning. Very Very disappointing.
