Re: Sofya Zhuk

It's not the best. But given the way she battled through in Daytona against a couple of higher ranked players, assuming she's not tiring, I think she should be able to give it a good go.

Well, quite a lot of DFs. Had to leave in Set 1, looked all very smooth, when I got back I found her at 2:5 and 2 matchpoints against her, even she could save these and the game the match wasn't in reach anymore. But the past two matches where way cool

Yeah she served one in each of the two games where she was serving for the match. She never actually got to a match point. In the third set she put in one DF in each of the three games where she got broken.

Kalinina was serving quite a few DFs too and in some cases, like the tiebreak, they evened themselves out.

SF: (Q) A. Kalinina def. S. Zhuk 3-6 7-6(4) 6-3

Two and a half hours. Very hard fought again. Sonya served for the match twice in the second set but was broken both times. Her old enemy the double fault started rearing its head around this point.

Kalinina served for the match at *5-2 in the third and Sonya broke. But then she was immediately broken again to lose the match.

:/

This was a bit of a missed opportunity. She played well on BPs converting 6 of 10 and actually won four more points than Kalinina in the match.

Yes wow! Another good fight.

Those first few games were epic and then the pace of the match increased. They were really getting into each other's service games. Each player had multiple BPs in the first set that they were unable to convert. A lot of missed chances for Sonya. But her resistance as the match progressed was better and better. More often than not she came out the winner of any close games which must have been demoralising for her opponent.

Great to see her beating a couple of players ranked above her already this week. Kalinina is I guess trying to climb back to her former ranking. Could be another tough one.
