Damn you are right. I didnt bother checking below the 150 rank. Both need to make the finals to rank above Ana.

I didnt look into the next page of the 150-200. All players below Ozaki are out this week so I didn't bother with lower.

They were not blocked in the last years AFAIR.

Re: Ana Bogdan

Get to know: Ana Bogdan

The 23-year-old Romanian qualifier is at her peak ranking of No.135 and she's a set away from finding herself in her first WTA quarterfinal, at a Premier event nonetheless.

Stanford is just her third WTA event of the year and her first WTA hard court event of the year. Bogdan told the WTA earlier this week that injuries have continued to derail her career ever since she turned pro in 2000.

“I've had a quadriceps muscle rupture, a ski accident, stomach virus and many other injuries that pushed me back in the ranking. I struggled for 2 years, dropped my ranking from 430 (at age of 17) to 1200.

Then at age of 19 started all over again with smaller tournaments. Last injuries I had were a tendinopathy at my left Achilles tendon, which started in December last year and still bothering me, still being swollen sometimes and a left ankle sprain during the practice before my first Wimbledon match this year.

All these I've been through made me stronger, wiser and a better person on and off court. I am grateful for everything I have now and everything I am. “

Bogdan was born in Sinaia, Romania and splits her training between her hometown and Bucharest. She has been coached by her father for the last 10 years.

Too bad she could't play freely after the first set but imo it happens a bit to often to her. Reminded me of last year when she had to retire with tears in her eyes in Rio or when she struggled against Monica in Bucharest. Really, pro tennis players should be used to playing in such conditions as they've been doing so since they were little. I really hope she can improve her stamina in order to cope with these conditions.... cause otherwise she has to become like top10 very fast so that she can force the organizers to only schedule her in the night sessions

She plays a 50k in Kentucky next week and after she made the MD in Florianopolis
Great post and I am sure you know Ana much better than me.
I hope to see her more in the future. She needs to win matches and get into the main stage of tennis.
Try and give us links for streams when they happen. Florianopolis is a WTA event. We can see her there

Congrats to Riske, although she's kinda annoying ...

@Rads101 : Is the full half of the glass broken in your case ? I mean cheer up a little ... I'm no expert, you're no expert but you're starting to go on the ways of gewa76 a little. A little balance wouldn't hurt. See the word balance (not positivity, which you don't see me bursting from it either) . I know you'll not like this post .
I totally agree with your post, expect the part where you say I won't like it.

This was a good tournament for her. And for once she made the right choice of playing here. She did obviously struggle with conditions today. And Riske was more annoying than I remembered her.

I do believe in balance and glass is half full. It's just that here, on players' forum, often I have the feeling I'm sitting around the table with 5-10 other guys & gals... and most (or all) are just talking about the full half. So then I get this need of pointing out the empty half being ignored. It's still a half full glass after all. If we had only gewas, phantoms & marios, I would probably stand out as the "glass is half full" guy. BTW, maybe I didn't see ALL his posts, but gewa never stroke me as being too negative, just critical. Phantom or Mario would have been "better examples" of occasionally really losing faith or being too negative for my taste.

I have no clue about Ana's next matches. I hope that 'not a fan' and 'Nightcrawl3r' will tell us.
I really think that Ana and Simona will be amazing double if they will take it seriously, but at least they must practice together. It will help Ana so much and also Simona will enjoy practicing such type of player.

@ Rads101,
You are correct in many things and you are probably right when you say where we will sit during Simona's matches But... I also like to "see and watch". I don't just come for the fun.
About Riske, I know her for few years and after your comments above, maybe I like her more than you.
I respect her Tennis and her "tools". But as you said, Riske has her "issues" which prevent her from staying in the top 30. (78 now)
peace

Imo, she needs to improve her speed and her ability to play against fast players like Riske. I am sure she didnt play such speedy (and also good) players until now. Fast players give her no time to react and she must learn how to play against them. I suggest her practicing with.. Simona

opss.. I also think that Ana and Simona will be amazing double because they have such variety of shoots!
Who knows, maybe they will. Any info about her next tourneys?

Re: Ana Bogdan

Lost 6-3 2-6 4-6.

My conclusions:
- She lost a winnable match. Perhaps due to heat. Maybe also lack of belief in herself. This is both good and bad. Good that she has it in her to (hopefully soon) reach Top100. Bad that she missed a pretty good opportunity.
- She still has a lot to improve. I said above she could reach Top100. But with what she showed today, she'll never climb much higher until she improves her footwork to start with for example. She often looked too heavy on her legs.
- I haven't followed Riske much before, but today she made a step towards the list a players I don't like much. I may be biased, but I didn't like her attitude at time and I think I saw here and there some antics that reminded me of another player I don't like.

@simostorm : I think I have an issue with someone telling me to "believe", as if that would make a difference in the result. It's maybe a matter of personality. To go a bit off-topic about the player that brought us here, I now picture you as someone who, at a match, would rather sit next to Simo's family & friends, and encourage each other with "she can do it", while I'd rather sit next to Darren and discuss the facts, what she's doing wrong, what she can improve, in this match and for the future. If my line of thought is busy with that, someone coming to tell me to just "believe" or stating a fact that I just don't see (the better technique), it's just distracting. And I tend to lack diplomacy so my reactions are a bit harsh at times. Sorry for that. And then there's the other aspect: I've seen over the last year many (otherwise neutral) users starting to dislike Simona, more because of her "annoying/delusional" fans, just because 2-3 of us came on GM with statements like "Simona has a better technique then...", "is the real #2"/"future #1", "has much more potential than..." etc... which really pushed a lot of buttons on other fans. Sometimes there's nothing to do about it... but sometimes it was "our" fault. I guess the "technically better tennis player" statement reminded me of the episodes which brought a lot of negativity on Simona, and I just wanted to warn in you in that respect (for your and Simona's sake, that's it).
