Nice turnaround in the 2nd after 1-3.
I actually think Brengle could be a nice matchup for Laura. Although Brengle isn't really the offensive type of player, she hasn't the best movement. She wins a lot of matches because of her good anticipation.
If Laura makes her move and wrongfoots her a bit I see her winning this.

Re: Laura Siegemund

result was 62 63

Laura was down 0-3 in 2nd set and only won one point in those three games but afterwards she made 6 games in a row, not much trouble in general with Pliskova, good stats also!

Brengle next, H2h 2-0 for Laura but both players improved since their last meeting in 2014, good luck!!

Laura also plays doubles in Madrid, the first match for her is:

R1: Siegemund/Kasatkina vs. Zheng/Xu

In the second round she could probably face ALG.

Re: Laura Siegemund

The match last just 65 minutes and she could convert every break point . Good start into the tournament!

Re: Laura Siegemund

well, Kr.Pliskova could be a "perfect victim" on clay for Laura´s gamestyle, then again the Pliskova has a really powerful game and good serve, Laura has to try to get her into longer rallies first and move her around etc., hope that she is mentally and physically ready for Madrid, Brengle in FQR could be a tough and long match as well, good luck!

WTA Madrid Q

(1)Siegemund v Kr.Pliskova
Hercog v (9)Brengle

Kr.Pliskova isn't great on clay, I watched her match in Prague this week and she was moving pretty bad on that surface. But of course, let's see if Laura still has her form from Stuttgart.

Great for Laura. Wonder if she received a QWC into Madrid or entered, but weird that she is still in for Cagnes then, as she wouldn't have gotten any points for playing, once she got into Madrid, I believe.
Hopefully she can keep the momentum going, although it will be incredibly difficult.

Wise decision to pull out of Rabat. And even wise to skip the ITF-tournaments as well, it wouldn't have made much sense to go back to ITF's right now.

Re: Laura Siegemund

yes, officially out of Rabat now, good decision, she just needs some rest now!
So she signed up for Madrid, good chance to qualify there and then we´ll see if she can play Rome Q or not, hope she will be mentally ready again for Madrid in a fewe days!

No, because some years ago she was thinking about to give tennis up. Good the she made another decision .

She said that she will now make a little break.

A wonderful start in the final from Laura until 3-0 and 4-2 with strong tennis
From 4-2 on she was clearly tired, made many UEs due to weak footwork/movement
The Laura from 4-2 on was only a shadow of the amazing tennis she played before
Laura had a very exhausting, long tournament. Understandable that she was tired
In the interview Laura told that physically this week she has reached the limit

Danke für ein wunderbares, unvergessliches Turnier in Stuttgart, Laura !

But for her the world will never be the same.
Good or bad? One might ask. Impossible to know.
She has the mentally most demanding game one could invent.
There is nothing more important than confidence, if you have to decide within split seconds to go drop shot, go long, lob or rip a passing shot. Compared to the game of most present day players, also the precision required in drop shots, lobs or passing shots is much higher. Does a week like this guarantee an increase of confidence?
One could imagine it does. But it also may create illusions of greatness that are not at all helpful.
It is comforting that she did not design this type of game in the week before Stuttgart, but has years of experience in it. But even for a psychology major like her the temptation of believing in her own invincibility is real at moments like this. Perhaps the loss against Angies relentless power tennis is the best that could have happened to her psyche.
