Katka drags Vekic in R32.
Maybe being back in the tournament where she got her career-best result will provide some spark.
Katka is also reunited with Krejcikova in doubles for this week. Another throwback to better times.

Re: Kateřina SiniakovŠ

I've been watching Katka's matches fairly regularly during this up and down season.

The upside is that she won her first two WTA titles while beating top level opponents, and she's made some significant finals and semifinals in doubles with Lucie - USOPen, RG, IW.
The downside is pretty much everything else in singles, and the fact that she and Lucie have yet to win a doubles title together.

It's making me sad to watch her compete during these prolonged slumps, with the extremely negative attitude she displays when things aren't going right - and even when things ARE going right.
She doesn't seem to have the right perspective about the tour and her path towards success. It seems like every match, set, game, and even point are do or die for her.

I wish she could just forget about both the external pressures, and especially the immense internal pressure that she places on herself. Her game is so powerful, quirky and fun when she's playing freely and with confidence.
She's still very young, and she has time to find that right balance between competitive drive and self-sabotage.
I just hope she doesn't eventually burn herself out on the sport. That would be a real loss to the tour.

Jedem, Katka.

Re: Kateřina SiniakovŠ

Katka made Linette look like a top 10 player in losing convincingly 1-6 2-6.
I'm not sure what the problem was, but the highlight of the match for me was watching Katka get her leg rubbed down doing the MTO at 2-5.
Hopefully she will be good to go for her doubles match with Dasha against Spears/Rosolska.

Re: Kateřina SiniakovŠ

Let's hope Lucie recovers well for the final. If Healthy, these two are much more powerful and athletic than Chan/Hingis. Of course that might not matter with legend and all her intangibles on the other side of the court in a slam final. You have to give the edge to the number two seeds, but if Lucie plays as solidly as she has throughout this tournament, they have a fighting chance.
Go get that slam trophy Katka!

Thrilled for her!

Some controversy towards the end of their semi.
