Re: Sofya Zhuk

Def. Ong 6-2 6-2 and into the main draw.

Was a bit concerned when she went down 15-40 with a double fault in the first game. But she won the next four points to take the game and then broke in the next one. Aside from a little wobble trying to close it out at *5-1 in the 2nd she was relatively untroubled.

There's an awful lot of 2nd and 3rd priorities in that MD list. A decent chance of getting bumped up again.

Agreed. It definitely seems to be a liability.

R1: [2] V. Kuzmova def. S. Zhuk 6-1 6-2

Pretty comprehensively beaten. :/

First set, couldn't get the serve working at all. Kuzmova on the other hand was really firing. Second set, Sonya's first serve % was much improved but Kuzmova was winning most of the return points anyway.

Bad luck, but maybe she's tired.

1st seed is Kuzmova, whom she beat on her way to Wimbledon Jr title.
