^I was thinking about this, starting a petition, but got distracted by my tweet being well received and going that route. Great idea! Was it you?

Will sign

Posted this in the GM thread as well:

Margaret Court has decided to boycott Qantas Airways over their support of same sex marriage. In a statement, Court said:

"I am disappointed that Qantas has become an active promoter for same sex marriage. I believe in marriage as a union between a man and a woman as stated in the Bible. Your statement leaves me no option but to use other airlines where possible for my extensive travelling."

This comes after Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce, himself an openly gay man, recently had a pie thrown in his face at a business breakfast over his signing of a joint letter in support of marriage equality along with 20 chief executives of major companies.

Ms Court's remarks are consistent with other homophobic comments she has made over the years, and in a supposedly global sport that can be played by virtually anyone, it seems extremely counterproductive to continue naming Margaret Court Arena, one of the main courts of the Australian Open (one of the 4 biggest tournaments in the tennis calendar) after somebody who so willingly, repeatedly and unapologetically will demonstrate intolerance and a lack of acceptance towards others.

In contrast, Evonne Goolagong-Cawley has been an outstanding representative for Australian tennis, as well as for Indigenous Australia and Australian sports as a whole. Surely, it would make more sense to name one of the biggest arenas in Australian tennis after a generous and inclusive individual such as Goolagong-Cawley, who herself would have had to endure her share of prejudice due to being an Indigenous Australian, than to have it named after somebody who is at a total contrast to the message of progression and acceptance being projected not just by Tennis Australia, but society as a whole.

Evonne Goolagong Arena anyone?

^Same.

Would definitely join a campaign to change the name of MCA... should be boycotted!

I love this idea.

^ And Richard Branston supports same sex marriage as well, so old Marg is gonna have to fly Tiger or Rex when she gets her prime seat at the AO and bemoans....everything (as per usual)!

Seriously, who even is this Margaret Court woman?

I think it's really weird how much lack of diversity there is in the Aussie accents. I'm sure Greg can point out all the differences but from having been across England and from knowledge of Western Europe, the accents can change there almost village to village.

I'd say it's down to travel as a factor but the explain USA with the California/New England/South accents being very distinct too.

Re: The "self-discovery" thread

Oh wow that was YOUR article! I was reading that in 'The Age' the other day. Congratulations

I don't watch the show either, I've only seen it in passing but I enjoyed the article anyway. I'm sure it helps Australia is such a diverse place with different people and cultures.

I'm playing a tourney next week where the finalists are invited to play at the IMG Open in Florida, and there are only 22 entries for 16/u Top seeds will be loving that. Of course, me being me, with the mental strength of a wet towel and a very hot and cold game I doubt I'll get past the first round but it's nice to dream

Congrats on the article! But god no, commercial tv is for when forced to watch sport on it because there's no other alternative :P

Watching TV to watch others watch TV is basically the zeitgeist for our society though.

Cool that you can nerd out over it.
