Big congrats out to Carol Zhao!!! She pulled out another 3 set victory 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.

She was up 5-4 on serve and was able to break Marina Shamayko to win the match.

She'll be joining Ahn in the MD. I hope she gets a good draw.

Saw Doyle's scoreline - 2 sets but kept it competitive. She didn't get blown away.

Big congrats to Zhao - hopefully she will win tomorrow, too.

Ahn has a good chance in the first round depending on Vandeweghe's consistency.

It's a thread about college player results in ITFs and a player winning a 10K deserves a post here I think
Besides Kordolaimi and Vogasari, have any other current college players won ITFs in singles this year?

That time was the other Houston Greek player, Eleni Kordolaimi

Re: Summer 2013 - College player in ITF events

I expected Gibbs to comeback in the 2nd set as she's been doing a lot of that lately.

Hanging tough and making the best of her opportunities.

Re: Summer 2013 - College player in ITF events

Gibbs takes the second set in a tiebreaker. Brady had a match point but couldn't convert.

Brady's issue is her shot selection. She also needs to improve her backhand and stop slicing so much.

Brady takes the first 6-3, but Gibbs looks to be injured.

Re: Summer 2013 - College player in ITF events

At this point in their careers, I'm going w/ Gibbs.

I remember being really impressed by Brady when I saw her destroy Hardebeck here at Stanford. Big girl w/ a big game. While her results have been pretty good, she hasn't dominated like I thought she would. Not that she won't dominate at some point, but not quite yet. (I guess I compare it to Coco V - another girl w/ huge serve and groundies. While she has had a decent career, she has never seemed to put "it" all together.)

Gibbs mental focus and consistency will get her through this match.

(my two cents)
