Re: Heather's Cheering Thread

Down 3-2, Smitkova's serve seems to have come back after disapearing in the second set.

Heather responded and won the second set 6-1. Showing some fight.

She should take that on permanently. The -ovas have an excellent record.

Smitkova.. is potentially tough, although I think Smitkova has been a bit rubbish lately..

Re: Heather's Cheering Thread

Dunno. She was a main draw alternate for Istanbul, and I think she would have got in - the last direct entrant was Zanevska (121), but maybe she thought it was too much on top of Fed Cup, especially if she wasn't certain she'd get in.

She's taken a wildcard into Prague qualies next week:

(2)Vikhlyantseva v Kozlova
Smitkova v (wc)Watson
(wc)Zarycka v (wc)Kilnarova
Kuzmova v (7)Duque-Marino

I don't think she'd have needed a WC based on ranking, so she presumably decided at the last minute, and asked for one. She won here when it was an ITF tournament.

Re: Heather's Cheering Thread

Did Heather choose to rest this week or could she not get to a tournament in time?

Re: Heather's Cheering Thread

Several of the players ranked behind Hev have had good weeks - including Schiavone, of course.

So she has slipped to 113 on the live rankings, so it looks like RG qualies for her.

I'm sure she was hoping to sneak in, but it might not be too bad after all. She's more likely to get wins as a high seed in qualies than in the MD.

There should be 108 direct entrants, 12 qualifiers and 8 wildcards.

I don't know how many of the top 108 will be out with injury (Stephens, Kvitova, ...?), and, conversely, how many other players have SRs that would get them in.

She is very close, so I'd really hoped she could get a couple of wins this week, but it was not to be. You're right that it is possible she could sneak in with withdrawals, but it would have been nicer if we could be certain!

Dawson. Wait, she's NOT pulled out of the doubles. Turns out I'm just blind

Dawson. 7 double faults today too, which certainly isn't like her. I see she's pulled out of the doubles too. Clearly an injury somewhere but hopefully nothing too serious. RG cut off is usually around #106 isn't it? So Heather isn't far off at the minute, with a few inevitable withdrawals she might just sneak in. If not, she'll be a top seed in qualifying, which she has come through a couple of times before.
