I wondered the same thing when I watched it yesterday but after watching it again, I'm fairly sure the umpire said, Code violation, coaching" so I don't think it was due to anything Sofya said.

It seemed to knock her off her stride but at least she bounced back in the next game.

She was inside the top 200 in the live rankings this morning but she is now down to #202. It's still a good jump up for her.

Getting into slam qualies is an important step for this year. By 2017 she should be ready for slam main draws.

Oh I wish I'd checked here about the livestream. I just assumed there wasn't one and went out when the match was on.

Regardless, very pleased for her after the disappointment of pulling out of the Mexico final. Iain Hughes definitely getting results out of Sofya already.

They got her to jump in the pool with the ball kids after the match.

Re: Sofya Zhuk

Great to see her take the title and move into the top 200, especially after she had to retire in her last final in Mexico. Hopefully she will build on this and keep progressing. She has huge potential.

Re: Sofya Zhuk

Impressive week for Sofya, especially the way she fought through some tough matches. Hopefully she can take the title today.

Re: Sofya Zhuk

Sofya's been having another great week, this time at the Sanchez-Casal Academy in Naples, Florida for this week's $25k.

R1: def. Maria Sanchez 6-3 6-3
R2: def. Emiliana Arango 3-6 6-4 6-4
QF: def. Ulrikke Eikeri 3-6 6-3 6-3
SF: def. Michelle Larcher de Brito 6-4 6-0
F: vs Taylor Townsend

She's pushing towards a new career high. A win tomorrow would put her into the Top 200 and probably Wimbledon qualifying.

SF: Danielle Collins def. Sofya Zhuk 2-6 6-3 6-3

Collins was awful in the first set. Could barely keep the ball in the court. Sofya was honestly having to do very little but get the ball back over the net. She wasn't even serving great but didn't have to.

Then in the second Collins got a little better but still struggling. However this time Sofya started to make little errors on big points. That meant all the games got very close. She had several opportunities to either hold or break and failed. A few crucial points and it was enough for Danielle to take it.

Still close early in the third. But then Sofya's game just went off the boil. She was playing fast and it was getting away from her. Collins won 11 points in a row towards the end of the set and had no trouble closing out the match.

Iain Hughes was watching and he wrapped in a towel because it seemed very windy out there. It certainly contributed to a few of the points as the path of the ball was sometimes a little unusual.

Re: Sofya Zhuk

QF: Sofya Zhuk def. Elizaveta Ianchuk 4-6 7-5 3-2 ret.

I had a stream going but it wasn't very stable and I kinda wasn't concentrating. Lots of breaks of serve and then suddenly it seemed Ianchuk had retired.

One thing I did notice was Sonya's serve. It still looks suspect to me. She hit 2 aces, 12 DFs. But I feel like she doesn't get enough power out of it given her height.

Certainly the 2nd serve is attackable. Ianchuk was standing way inside the baseline to return it.
