I think yes, the Santa Margherita QF was certainly more of a concerning loss than this one. The manner of that loss indicated some real struggles as you say.

But I think it's difficult to compare to other players at this stage because of their ages. It's a long slow process to the top.

It wouldn't surprise me if she's had a growth spurt to be struggling on clay. Another 'cow on ice' scenario. I'm not overly concerned here. She's been doing just fine at 10k level and is improving her pro ranking.

She's supposed to a teen prodigy and best up and coming Russian. Ever since her Wimbledon Jr win, I haven't seen signs of being a dominant player.

Hopefully she can turn it around soon.

I wonder about Sonya's proficiency on clay. She's basically avoided it since June 2015.

Sonya is into the second round of the Junior Italian Open aka Grade A Trofeo Bonfiglio. It's her first junior tournament of the season but a good Roland Garros tune-up.

Re: Sofya Zhuk

She lost this week in the QF of 10k Santa Margherita di Pula to top seed Corinna Dentoni. Both players really struggled to hold serve in that match. Sonya having trouble on her first serve it seems and Dentoni went on a run of six games in row at one stage.

Really excited to see that she has entered the Italian Open and French Open Juniors. She needs more matches and the juniors are a good way to get them. Also a great way for her to learn how to deal with pressure as everyone will be gunning to beat her. It will be interesting to see how she does.
