Re: Amanda Carreras

Amanda retired while leading 7-6 1-0 in the QF of Pelham 25K. Usually a bad sign when a player retires while ahead.

Re: Amanda Carreras

Really thought she was going to do it. Tennis can be so cruel.

Then goes 4-3 but collapses in the last 3 games and loses 6-2 6-7 4-6

Awful loss.

Comes back to lead 4-3, final set but loses the last three games.

A heartbreaking defeat.

So frustrating watching the score. Her service game at 6-2 4-3 went to 10 deuces and she had 9 game points.

Re: Amanda Carreras

Amanda is playing the qualies at Charleston and beat Jil Belen Teichmann 5 & 2 in QR1.

I think that may be her first win in ranking event at a level above the ITF circuit. She played qualies at Marbella in 2009 (possibly a wild card earned by winning the Spanish junior champs the previous year), and Wimbledon a couple of times, and I don't see any others.

Re: Amanda Carreras

Reading post #226, it looks as though she decided to skip grass this year.

With her ranking, I think she'd only have had to show a little commitment to grass by playing some warm ups, in order to have got at least a QWC. But without that, I'm not surprised she didn't get one.

While we have hardly anyone worthy of a MDWC, we have a lot who could be considered for a QWC.

I'm not criticising Amanda's choice - maybe she feels she can do better on other surfaces, without the distraction of grass,

Re: Amanda Carreras

Lost R1 in Caserta 25K this week, but won the doubles with stablemate Savoretti. Supposedly she's playing the Spanish 10K next week.
